The teaser released at noon on March 13 revealed the cast of characters in Ly Hai's new project. Artist Thanh Hien plays Mrs. Hai, 73 years old, a single mother in a village. Her eldest son - Hai Khon (Truong Minh Cuong) - has a wealthy life, while Ba Lanh (Dinh Y Nhung), Tu Hau (Quach Ngoc Tuyen), Nam Thao (Tram Anh), Sau Tam (Tran Kim Hai) are not as well off.
One time, she had an accident, and her children held an online meeting to discuss who would go back to their hometown to take care of their mother. They pushed each other, saying they each had their own difficulties. However, Mrs. Hai still bragged to her neighbors: "Every time something happens to me, they all rush back."
Ly Hai said that in the teaser, he did not introduce explosions or martial arts - which are typical scenes in previous parts - because he wanted to focus on the message of family love. With Lat mat 7 , he chose the love and family genre, not wanting to be confined to the action film genre. The director cherished the script for the new part since 2021, when the pandemic was still complicated, and completed it in six months.
The work brings together nearly 50 actors such as: Quach Ngoc Tuyen, Thanh Thuc, Dinh Y Nhung, Tiet Cuong. Some people participate for the first time, including Truong Minh Cuong - who attracted attention in the TV series Gio Nguoc Mua (2009), along with veteran artists such as Thanh Hien, Manh Dung, Thanh Dau. The work starts filming from December 2023 for a month and a half, set in Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan , Hanoi, and will be released in theaters on April 30.
Ly Hai is one of the most successful producers at the box office, opening the trend of making branded films (franchise) on Vietnamese screens with the series Lat mat . The artist was an amateur when he entered the field of film production. Graduating from the drama course of the Stage Arts School 2 (now the University of Theatre and Cinema, Ho Chi Minh City), in the early 1990s, he entered the singing profession. After many years of hardship, in 2010, Ly Hai left the stage and turned to directing.
The first four parts of Lat mat dau were commercially successful, earning more than 350 billion VND. In 2021, the fifth part - Lat mat: 48h - earned 150 billion VND, the second highest-grossing Vietnamese film of the year (after Tran Thanh's Bo gia , earning more than 430 billion VND). In 2023, he won big with the sixth part, earning 300 billion VND, ranking behind Mai (500 billion VND) , Nha ba Nu (475 billion VND) and Bo gia (420 billion VND) in the list of the most successful Vietnamese films of all time.
