Technology site Tenscope has just published a study comparing the official selling price of the starting iPhone 17 Pro (256GB memory) with the average salary in different countries.
The goal of the study was to find out how many days' wages it would take people in different countries to save up enough money to buy an iPhone 17 Pro.
According to the research, India tops the list of countries where people have to spend the most days' wages to save enough money to buy an iPhone 17 Pro. People in this country have to spend an average of 160 days' wages and not spend anything to be able to buy an iPhone 17 Pro.
This is because an iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,525 in the Indian market, which is high globally, while the average hourly wage of people in this country is $1.19.

The Philippines is the second country in the list of countries where people have to spend the most days' wages to afford the iPhone 17 Pro. Specifically, people in the Philippines need 101 working days' income to be able to afford an iPhone 17 Pro, with a starting price of 1,437 USD in this country.
Notably, Vietnam is the third country on the list.
According to Tenscope, the average hourly wage of Vietnamese people is 1.67 USD and the average working time per week is 41.8 hours (more than 5 days/week), equivalent to an average income of 303 USD/month.
With this average income, Vietnamese people would have to spend 99 days of salary, working 8 hours a day, to save enough money to buy an iPhone 17 Pro with 256GB memory, starting at 1,325 USD (equivalent to 34.9 million VND).
This means that Vietnamese people will have to fast for more than 3 months to save enough money to own a new generation iPhone 17 Pro from Apple.
On the contrary, statistics from Tenscope show that Luxembourg and Switzerland are the two countries where people have to spend the fewest days' wages to save up enough money to buy an iPhone 17 Pro, with each worker having to lose on average only 3 working days' income.
The next countries are the US, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, where workers need 4 days' wages to buy the lowest-priced iPhone 17 Pro.
Where is the iPhone 17 Pro with the highest price?
Tenscope also surveyed the selling price of iPhone 17 Pro in different countries and compared it with the original selling price in the US market.
According to the survey results, Türkiye is the country with the highest selling price of iPhone 17 Pro, with the price up to 2,611 USD. This is because Türkiye imposes high taxes on imported electronic products, especially smartphones, causing the price of the product to be pushed up much higher than the starting price announced by Apple.
At this price, people in Türkiye would have to spend 89 days' wages to afford an iPhone 17 Pro.

The remaining names in the top 5 countries with the highest iPhone 17 Pro prices include Brazil ($2,133, people spend 77 days' salary to buy), Hungary ($1,647, need 27 days' salary to buy), Norway ($1,619, spend 4 days' salary to buy) and Sweden ($1,609, spend 6 days' salary to buy).
On the other hand, Vietnam ranks 5th in the list of countries with the cheapest iPhone 17 Pro prices, behind the US ($1,099), Canada ($1,154), the United Arab Emirates ($1,279) and Malaysia ($1,303).
To come up with the results of this study, Tenscope used information on average wages taken from the International Labour Organization database, the websites of ministries or statistical offices of the countries at the latest time.
The average daily wage figure is calculated by Tenscope by taking the average annual earnings divided by 12 months, then dividing by the average number of working days per month in each country.
Tenscope will then use the official selling price of the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB version in the countries (through authorized resellers or official Apple stores) divided by the average daily income to get the final result.
Of course, this is just reference data and is calculated based on published average income statistics.
