After each flood, many electrical and electronic devices such as fans, televisions, refrigerators, etc. are submerged in water in many households. The risk of damage is very high. However, if you know how, some electronic devices can still be repaired.
Users should apply some steps as below immediately after detecting the device is flooded.

Safe drying
For electrical and electronic devices that have been submerged in water, the first step is to clean them. Open the device's case and use clean water to gently rinse it or, if necessary, use a soft cloth to wipe away any dirt or mud that may be stuck to the components.
Then, let the appliance drain out completely by letting the water drain naturally or by using a fan to help evaporate the water. If possible, a fan is best for the appliance.
According to the recommendation of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), electronic devices can usually withstand temperatures of 50-60 degrees Celsius. Users should use the dryer at the lowest setting, rest every 2-3 minutes, then continue drying until completely dry.
If a dryer is not available, the user can place the device in a sealed box with 2-3 incandescent bulbs to create heat to help dry it.
Check components
After the device is dry, the user should carefully check the internal components such as wires, circuit boards, switches and fuses. If signs of damage or oxidation are detected, they should be replaced immediately to avoid future problems. If unsure about the condition of the device, take it to a reputable warranty center for inspection.
Do not use immediately
After performing the above steps, users should not turn on the device immediately. Let the device dry completely for a few days to ensure safety. Using the device while it is still moist can lead to electrical short circuit or fire.
Measure insulation before plugging in
According to electrical experts, after drying, users should not rush to plug in to test or use. Because if plugged in hastily, there is a risk of smoke and fire.
Before plugging the device back into the power source, the user should measure the insulation resistance with a multimeter, ensuring that the insulation resistance is approximately 0.5MΩ. If you are not confident with the results, take the device to a repair station for advice.
During handling, do not touch the electric wire, do not walk barefoot or in wet sandals, and do not stand in water to ensure your own safety.
Electrical experts also recommend that, in case of lack of technical knowledge, users should not arbitrarily disassemble or replace components, causing unsafety. With complex electronic devices such as refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, users should bring the device to reputable maintenance centers for repair.
