Da Nang and Grab cooperate to promote smart city construction and digital transformation

DNO - On the evening of October 10, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang City Tran Ngoc Thach said that within the framework of the 19th Vietnam - Singapore Economic Connectivity Ministerial Conference (CMM) in Hanoi held on the same day, the Department of Science and Technology, representative of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, presented a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to promote smart city construction and digital transformation with Grab Company Limited.

The ceremony to hand over the memorandum of understanding between the People's Committee of Da Nang City and Grab Company Limited was witnessed by Vietnamese Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang and Second Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Manpower of Singapore Tan See Leng.

The Memorandum of Understanding is not only a cooperation document but also demonstrates the commitment of both sides in joining hands to build Da Nang into a smart, modern, friendly and sustainably developed city in the period 2025 - 2030.

Mr. Ma Tuan Trong, CEO of Grab Company Limited, said that since its presence in Da Nang in 2016, Grab has continuously improved its services to meet the diverse needs of local people. In addition, Grab always focuses on expanding livelihood opportunities for workers and promoting tourism growth.

The cooperation agreement with Da Nang city is expected to become an important launching pad, helping Grab continue to create far-reaching positive impacts and connect more closely with the local market and community.

Grab appreciates the support and cooperation of departments, branches, sectors and localities over the past years and commits to continue accompanying Da Nang city to implement the next practical projects for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the city.

Accordingly, the two sides will coordinate to apply technology, digital transformation and implement initiatives in the field of transportation by researching methods to build a traffic and road image information system after storms using technology and big data; implementing initiatives to build a safe traffic culture, including the initiative "If you drink alcohol, do not drive".

The People's Committee of Da Nang City will facilitate and accompany Grab to carry out digital transformation for traditional forms of transport in the locality and enhance opportunities to increase income for car transport businesses and motorbike drivers by joining the Grab platform.

In order to join hands to help Da Nang affirm its position on the regional and international tourism map, Grab will focus on digital transformation initiatives, promoting local cuisine and specialties. These initiatives include equipping small and micro-food establishments with digital tools to improve business efficiency and digitizing Da Nang's "Food Tour" program.

In addition, Grab will be a companion, actively supporting the organization of major cultural and social events in Da Nang city; enhancing digital skills for the community, fulfilling corporate social responsibility to contribute to the sustainable development of the locality; accompanying local universities in equipping knowledge on digital platforms, technology, enhancing digital skills, and applying artificial intelligence (AI) for students.

The two sides will coordinate to enhance training and improve digital skills for local workers, especially female workers; at the same time, implement environmental initiatives towards sustainable development.

The cooperation with Grab demonstrates Da Nang city's commitment to implementing major policies of the Party and Government on science, technology and innovation development, especially promoting national digital transformation.

Through cooperation with Grab, a leading international technology partner, Da Nang will take advantage of its strengths in technology, digital platforms and practical implementation experience to bring many practical benefits to people, businesses and local communities.

At the memorandum exchange ceremony held on October 10, Grab and Da Nang city also agreed on an action plan for 2025 - 2026 with priority given to activities that can be implemented immediately, creating a premise for technology application and digital transformation activities in cooperation areas such as: organizing a conference to promote Da Nang tourism; a technology and artificial intelligence application contest for university students in Da Nang; a conference on e-commerce for micro, small and medium enterprises in Da Nang; planting 20,000 trees in Phu Ninh protective forest.

The cooperation agreement between Grab and Da Nang city will be implemented for 5 years, contributing to building a smart city and promoting the digital economy.

Accordingly, the two sides will closely coordinate to implement a roadmap to equip Vietnamese students and youth with digital transformation skills; promote activities and create conditions for union members, youth, pupils and students to develop digital knowledge and skills, access and apply technology in practice; thereby aiming to build a comprehensively developed young generation, meeting the human resource needs of the digital economy.

At the same time, the two sides will promote the role and potential of students, using digital platforms as tools to create more value for the digital economy, thereby bringing many benefits to the community and society.

With an extensive cooperation program and roadmap, this agreement will contribute to training young human resources for the country's industrialization, modernization and international integration process.
