RT reported that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on October 9 that there has been no progress in finding a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict. According to Mr. Peskov, dialogue between Russia and the US on resolving this issue is "on hold".

It is known that Russian and Ukrainian delegations have met several times before this year. In the most recent round of negotiations in Istanbul (Turkey) in July 2025, the two sides agreed to set up three working groups to develop a plan to resolve political , military and humanitarian issues.
However, Mr Peskov said "nothing has progressed". The Russian official said Ukraine had no intention of pursuing a peace process and still harbored unrealistic hopes that it could turn the situation on the battlefield.
“Ukraine’s position is being pushed by Europe,” Peskov noted, adding that the West continues to encourage Ukraine to refuse dialogue while continuing to maintain military moves that hinder peace efforts.
Recently, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that the strong momentum, created after the Russia-US summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, to resolve the Ukraine conflict is "no longer there".
Immediately after the Russia-US summit in mid-August 2025, a number of European Union (EU) leaders traveled to Washington with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to persuade the US President to side with Europe in the conflict.
Moscow reiterated that it is always ready to work towards a peace deal, but stressed that any agreement must respect Russia's national security interests as well as the current territorial realities on the ground.
