Youssef En-Nesyri scored in the 63rd minute in the capital Rabat (Morocco) to help the home team complete 8 wins in Group E, becoming the only team in the African qualifiers with a 100% winning record and winning a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in North America next year.
This victory helped them surpass the 15 consecutive wins that the Spanish team achieved in the period 2008-2009 to set a new record for the longest winning streak in international football history.

The last time Morocco failed to win an international match was when they drew 0-0 with Mauritania in a friendly in March 2024 but since then have won eight 2026 World Cup qualifiers, six in this year's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and two friendlies.
Morocco's 16-game winning streak has seen them score 50 goals and concede just four.
Morocco have yet to announce plans to host friendly matches during November's FIFA Days but later in the year they will host the Africa Cup of Nations finals, where they will face Comoros in their opening match on 21 December.
After setting a historic milestone, coach Walid Regragui affirmed that Morocco will not stop there. He revealed that the team is negotiating to organize a high-level friendly match with Argentina, the current world champion, to gain more experience and best prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
“We want to play against the best teams in the world. If we cannot meet Argentina, we are ready to face an African or Asian team to experience a different style of play,” the 50-year-old coach affirmed.
The 2026 World Cup will have a total of 48 participating teams, of which Asia has 8 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; Europe has 16 slots; Africa has 9 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; South America has 6 direct slots and 1 play-in slot; North, Central and South America and the Caribbean have 6 direct slots (including 3 co-host teams USA, Canada, Mexico) and 2 play-in slots; Oceania has 1 direct slot and 1 play-in slot.
