
Specifically, during the heavy rain on the night of October 22, the Ben Van stream water rose, sweeping away the house of Mrs. Nham Nu (born in 1946), Bau Bang hamlet, Bau Bang commune. The strong water swept away Mrs. Nham Nu. At about 2:30 p.m. on October 23, local forces found Mrs. Nu's body 5.5 km from her house.
Heavy rain also flooded 69 houses (49 in Cau Doi quarter, 17 in Cau Sat and 3 in Lai Khe) in Ben Cat ward. Here, many places were flooded 1 - 1.2m deep. The ward People's Committee mobilized more than 60 people along with the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police force to urgently evacuate 242 people to safety; including 200 workers of Mai Thanh Company.
By 1am on October 23, the water had receded and people were returning home. The initial cause was determined to be heavy rain concentrated in the lake belonging to the Large Livestock Research and Development Center. Two drainage culverts could not drain the water in time, causing water to overflow into the residential area around Tu Van 1 Lake.
In Long Nguyen ward, 103 houses were flooded; of which, 72 households in Cau Quan quarter were heavily flooded 1 - 1.2 m; one house wall collapsed. About 42.5 hectares of crops and trees were flooded; 9 traffic routes were cut off, some flooded sections were 200 m long. The ward authorities mobilized 170 people to rescue and evacuate people and property to safety. Some people's vehicles were damaged.
In Phu An ward, the tide overflowed a 2km long dike, from Phu Thuan quarter to Ben Giang quarter, flooding 30 households and 10 hectares of crops, 0.3 - 0.7m deep. The ward authorities evacuated deeply flooded households, the water receded with the tide, and no significant damage was recorded.
In Thu Dau Mot ward, high tides overflowed the banks of Cay Nhum canal (106 m), Bay Goi canal (30 m) and Ba Lua canal (70 m), causing local flooding in Chanh Nghia 9 and Phu Tho 5 neighborhoods. The ward People's Committee mobilized forces to reinforce the canal banks, and the water has receded, ensuring the safety of residential areas.
Local authorities are continuing to mobilize forces to support people in overcoming the consequences, inspecting areas at risk of landslides, and closely monitoring developments of heavy rain and high tides to proactively respond in the coming days.
