People's Artist Hoang Cuc was born in 1957 in Hung Yen. Since childhood, Hoang Cuc loved reading books. At the age of 13, the artist had read classic works of world literature such as: War and Peace , Quiet Flows the Don, etc. The love for art was nurtured every day in the artist's emotional soul.

After finishing high school, Hoang Cuc entered the Conservatory of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music) and then worked for 2 years at the Tuyen Quang Provincial Art Troupe. She decided to continue studying for 4 more years to become a professional drama actress. That decision completely changed Hoang Cuc's life later on, so that the Vietnamese stage and screen had a beauty with expressive eyes and excellent acting ability.

People's Artist Hoang Cuc applied to join the Hanoi Drama Troupe (now Hanoi Drama Theater) because she was fascinated by the play Conspiracy and Love. The roles played by artists Thanh Tu, Dam Ca, and Tran Van made her dream of one day shining on stage like that.

Hoang Cuc's first role was Sa-ghi-a in The Woman Behind the Green Door (Russian script) in 1984. Initially, she was not on the cast list so she asked director Ta Xuyen to let her audition. The moment the female artist transformed into a gentle but fierce wife to protect equal rights delighted the director. Finally, she was chosen for the main role, playing with artists Hoang Dung, Minh Vuong and Minh Trang.

During her 30 years working at the Hanoi Drama Theater, People's Artist Hoang Cuc had memorable roles and won many awards in plays such as: My Village's Lock Teacher, Street Eyes, Me and Us, You're Gradually Beautiful in My Eyes, Thinking About Me, Begging the Past, Milk Flower Season... She held the position of Deputy Director of the Hanoi Drama Theater from 2001 until her retirement. In 1997, Hoang Cuc was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. In 2011, she received the title of People's Artist.

When performing the play Me and Us (Luu Quang Vu), Hoang Cuc was pregnant with her first son. Two and a half months after giving birth, she began to return to the stage. The artist left her child in the wings, and asked the backstage staff to look after him. One day, Hoang Cuc shed tears on stage because of her role, while her child cried because he was thirsty for milk. When her son was 7 months old, she took him all over the country. Her son, named Le Hoang Linh, later became an editor for VTV and her daughter-in-law is actress and MC Nguyen Thuy Linh of the Hanoi Drama Theater.

The People's Artist is also a familiar face to many generations of television audiences through the films: Retired General, The Shell, Falling into the Trap, Orange Bell, River of Desire, Ephemeral Life...

Perhaps the role of Thuy in Retired General (director Nguyen Khac Loi)   is an unforgettable milestone in the artistic career of People's Artist Hoang Cuc. People's Artist Hoang Cuc shared that on stage and in movies she cried so much for her characters that in real life she rarely shed tears. Even when the female artist was seriously ill, her family members were speechless but she still smiled...

In 2010, People's Artist Hoang Cuc was diagnosed with stage three cancer. Not giving up on her fate, she bravely overcame both physical and mental pain. Her hair fell out in clumps due to chemotherapy, so the artist proactively called a barber to shave her head. In her most painful moments, she found joy and strength from her family.

She also opened a very professional hair salon, a prestigious beauty salon for friends, colleagues and many customers.

People's Artist Hoang Cuc is jokingly called "The most playboy grandmother in showbiz".
