Tax industry learns from international experience, moving towards smart management model

In the context that the Vietnamese Tax sector is promoting the implementation of the National Digital Transformation Strategy and the Industry Development Strategy to 2030, learning and referring to experiences from countries with advanced tax management systems is of particular importance.

Digital transformation is the driving force

At the recent meeting to exchange international experiences on digital transformation of the Tax sector with the participation of Deputy Director Mai Son; Chairman of EY Vietnam Company Nguyen Thuy Duong and international expert Seah Chin Siong - former Member of the Board of Directors of the Singapore Tax Authority (IRAS), Director of the Tax Department Mai Xuan Thanh emphasized the importance of learning from international experiences.

According to Director Mai Xuan Thanh, the goal of the Tax sector is not only to apply information technology in processing operations, but also to move towards a comprehensive transformation of the management model. The destination is an intelligent system with a high level of automation and the core is to take taxpayers as the center of service.

“The Tax Department always identifies digital transformation as a key driving force to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of tax management, expand the collection base, reduce compliance costs, increase transparency, and at the same time create maximum convenience for people and businesses,” Director Mai Xuan Thanh emphasized.

Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh also affirmed that in this process, cooperation and professional exchange with experienced international companies such as EY is a valuable opportunity. This activity helps the Tax Department have more practical perspectives and multi-dimensional assessments to choose the most suitable solution for the specific context of Vietnam.

Sharing at the meeting, EY Vietnam Chairman Nguyen Thuy Duong expressed her honor to accompany the Tax Department. Accordingly, EY Vietnam and the global EY network have always accompanied the Finance sector in general and the Tax Department in particular in many policy reform and management modernization programs. EY recognizes that Vietnam is at an important pivotal stage, when digital transformation is not only a trend but has become a key task to improve the effectiveness of state management and national competitiveness.

Focus on business process redesign

At the meeting, representatives of the leaders of the Departments and units of the Tax Department discussed and exchanged experiences with experts on contents focusing on redesigning business processes and building an information technology system that is strong and flexible enough to meet the requirements of comprehensive digital transformation.

From practical experience in Singapore and other developed countries, Mr. Seah Chin Siong highly appreciated the orientation of the Vietnamese Tax sector. He said that Vietnam is on the right track when focusing on transforming the management model by subject combined with management by function. In particular, the orientation of deploying digital data applications (Big Data) and artificial intelligence (AI) to manage risks, forecast revenue and support taxpayers is a key step, catching up with global trends.

Mr. Seah Chin Siong expressed his belief that, with a clear strategic vision, a dynamic leadership team and active support from international organizations such as EY, the Vietnamese Tax industry can absolutely become one of the leading modern and effective electronic tax management systems in the ASEAN region in the near future.

Concluding the meeting, Director General Mai Xuan Thanh sincerely thanked Mr. Seah Chin Siong and representatives of EY Vietnam for sharing valuable experiences. This information has contributed to helping the Vietnam Tax Department gain important suggestions in the process of perfecting the information technology system architecture and restructuring business processes.

Director Mai Xuan Thanh affirmed that the Tax Department will continue to expand international cooperation, making the most of knowledge and advanced technology to accelerate the modernization of tax management, towards a transparent, effective and sustainable digital finance.
