Choking ceremony of awarding special diploma to female student of Danang University of Technology

The entire hall was filled with tears when the name of the female student who passed away due to a serious illness was announced first at the graduation ceremony on September 20 at the University of Technology - Danang University.

On September 20, at the F hall, the University of Science and Technology - Danang University held the second graduation ceremony of 2025 for more than 1,500 new PhDs, Masters, Engineers, Architects and Bachelors.

In that solemn moment, the name of female student Do Thi Tra - who passed away forever due to kidney failure - was announced first, as a recognition from the school.

When the MC announced Do Thi Tra’s name at the top of the list of departments related to construction and environment, the whole hall fell silent. That moment seemed to remind us that a female student had steadfastly gone all the way, but unfortunately she could not stand on the podium to receive her diploma.

"She's gone, but her wish has come true. That brilliant youth will forever be engraved in the hearts of all those who remain. Tra's journey has ended, but her university degree, a symbol of determination and aspiration, will remain forever, giving strength to many generations of students who will come after her," said Mr. Le Phong Nguyen, Tra's homeroom teacher.

A day before the ceremony, at a small house in Le Thuy commune ( Quang Tri ), the school board burned incense to say goodbye and presented a special diploma to Tra's family. The diploma that Tra had always dreamed of had now returned, in a moment filled with tears.

The mother choked up as she put on her daughter's bachelor's gown, her trembling hands tightly holding the diploma as if wanting to hold on to the image of her daughter who had devoted her youth to her unfinished dream.

In 2018, Do Thi Tra enrolled in architecture school with the aspiration of becoming an architect. Her classmates still remember the petite figure, gentle smile and tenacious determination of the girl from the old Quang Binh (new Quang Tri). According to plan, she will graduate in 2023.

However, the terrible kidney failure forced Tra to be more attached to the hospital instead of the classroom. Teacher Nguyen said: "Even on the hospital bed, Tra still diligently studied English for the exam. She never complained, she was only worried that she was behind her friends."

In July 2024, before completing her foreign language certificate - the final requirement for graduation recognition, Tra passed away forever. Understanding her final wish, the school board decided to grant her special graduation recognition.

Dr. Huynh Phuong Nam, vice principal, directly presented the diploma to the family: "It is not only a recognition for a student, but also a message about the will to live, about the desire to study and not give up in the face of adversity."
