Saxo expects gold to hit $2,500 an ounce by the end of 2024. A recent report showed that the gold exchange-traded fund attracted its first inflow of the year in May.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs jumped to 8.14 million in May, from a downwardly revised 7.91 million in April. Economists had expected the number of jobs to fall to about 7.9 million.

US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said at a conference of the European Central Bank that he was pleased with the way US inflation was trending down after recovering at the beginning of the year.

That's a sign that the Fed could cut interest rates in the coming months. However, Mr. Powell refused to confirm this. "We want to be more confident that inflation is coming down in a sustainable way," - Fed Chairman said.

If the Fed lowers interest rates from September, the USD may fall rapidly. Gold prices will increase sharply.

Experts are now focusing on the FOMC meeting minutes to be released this afternoon (US time). Then, the US monthly employment report will be released on Friday.
