Graduating from university with a good degree in Can Tho , Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (24 years old) still struggled to find a suitable job. Ngan's dream is to work in the electricity industry, continuing the family tradition.

Go to college to improve your skills
After many times of applying for jobs, Ngan understood that technical skills are the key to attracting the attention of businesses. In 2025, Ngan packed her bags and went to Ho Chi Minh City to become a new student majoring in electricity at Ho Chi Minh City College of Electricity. Not afraid of the age and gender gap, the female student "combats" with all her heart during hours of practice under the hot sun.
"Instead of having to do a job in a different field, I am determined to continue studying to improve my knowledge and skills so that in the future I can do the job I want" - Ngan expressed.
Kim Ngan (right cover) is a special female student. Ngan studied electricity at both university and college.
The boys help Ngan put on a safety belt before practicing climbing the electric pole.
In the training program, there is no distinction between male and female. However, depending on each specific skill practice, the instructor can flexibly assign groups to suit each student.
Studying electricity in two different training systems, Ngan realized that each program has its own strengths. At university, the training program focuses on theory and in-depth research. At college, the program focuses on practice and vocational skills.
As one of four female students in the class, Ngan received a lot of support from the lecturer and male students, especially in difficult practical exercises such as climbing electric poles.
"Although it is difficult, I think this is the right choice. Because besides knowledge, technical skills are also very important in helping businesses choose human resources" - Ngan said frankly.
A little bit hard but have stable job
Unlike Kim Ngan, Ly Anh Thu (25 years old, from Ca Mau) had a dream of studying tourism and travel management, but the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic made her rethink and choose a safer path.
Thu said that her family has three siblings. Her second brother is working in the electricity industry, and her third brother is studying electricity at the University of Technology (VNU-HCM). Therefore, Thu also wants to continue the family tradition.

Determination to pursue the electrical industry is not only because of passion but also because of the desire to soon have a stable job, thanks to the training time of only 2 and a half years. To Trinh (from An Giang ) admitted that at first, the transition from social subjects to natural subjects to study in the major was quite difficult. However, To Trinh quickly adapted and maintained good academic results. After two years, this female student affirmed that studying is not as heavy as people think.
Recruitment trends are increasing.
MSc. Nguyen Minh Quang, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City Electricity College, said that currently, the proportion of female students accounts for about 4% of the total number of students in the whole school. The number of female students has not increased in recent years due to the policy of prioritizing the recruitment of male workers to replace retired electricity workers.
Female students attentively watch their classmates practice
The school mainly trains in professions related to the field of electricity, so the number of female students is very small. Therefore, the "beautiful ladies" always receive special attention, support, and job introductions from the school after graduation.
However, female students studying this major still have many job opportunities in fields such as: Sales staff of electrical equipment related products; working in offices of enterprises performing services related to electricity activities: consulting on electrical project design, electrical construction and installation, electrical inspection and testing...
"The school's enrollment situation in 2025 has changed positively, the number of candidates registering to study at the school has increased slightly compared to last year. On the one hand, thanks to the positive impact of the media on the field of vocational education, on the other hand, thanks to the recent increasing demand for replacement labor in electricity companies" - Master Quang said.
