Heroic examples contributed to the Dien Bien Phu Victory

Heroic martyr Phan Dinh Giot used his body to fill the loophole, trapping the French troops inside and preventing them from firing out. Our army seized the opportunity to attack and completely destroy the Him Lam stronghold on March 13, 1954, winning the opening battle of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, in the opening battle on Him Lam hill, Deputy Company Commander Tran Can bravely led the squad past the forward bunker, stormed the enemy command post, and planted the flag on the Him Lam bunker. Martyr Tran Can sacrificed heroically on the morning of May 7, 1954, the day the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign ended.
