Roads built by the State and the People

"Even though it is difficult, the people can still do it"

More than 4 months ago, the road in front of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao's house (Phuoc Hung hamlet, Phuoc Chi commune, Tay Ninh province) was still a dike, narrow, muddy and slippery, making it very difficult to travel. Currently, this road has been poured with cement concrete and the road surface has been widened to more than 3 meters.

When the local government implemented the plan to upgrade and expand the road, Mrs. Thao and her family members enthusiastically donated land with a width of more than 3 meters and a length of 50-60 meters to make the road spacious and beautiful. "We are very happy because we have a beautiful road, no longer muddy, safe for students and workers to go to work" - Mrs. Thao said.

In Phuoc Dan hamlet, Phuoc Chi commune, for decades, the economic life of the people has been greatly limited, because there is no convenient traffic route. More than 4 months ago, the people in the hamlet happily contributed a part of their land to upgrade and expand the dike into a spacious rural traffic route.

Mr. Tu Ngoc An (residing in Phuoc Dan hamlet, Phuoc Chi commune) said that before, this road only had a 1.2 meter wide embankment, which was often muddy and flooded during the rice crop. When the local government mobilized to donate land to widen the road, he happily donated a 130 meter long section of land.

Thanks to that, this dike became a concrete road connecting the villages. When asked why he donated all his rice-growing land to build a road, this old farmer said: “I didn’t think about anything, here are all my neighbors, brothers, and grandchildren. I donated the land to build a road so that everyone can travel easily.”

Mr. An boasted that since the road was built, farmers no longer get stuck in the mud when transporting rice home, and tractors and plows can enter the fields freely.

Mrs. Tu Bach Lan (75 years old, living in Phuoc Dan hamlet) makes a living by growing vegetables to sell at the market. Every day, she has to put the vegetables on a bicycle and push them along the dike, sometimes falling up and down. She said: "Now that there is a clean concrete road, I can push my vegetables to sell comfortably, without fear of falling anymore."

With the goal of promoting the strength of the entire people, the spirit of solidarity and the role of the people in building new rural areas, from 2021 to 2023, Phuoc Chi commune mobilized more than 8.4 billion VND, including building 4 rural traffic bridges; installing 3 new rural commune welcome gates; paving over 6.4km of rural traffic routes; lighting up 30.5km of rural roads; installing roofs, leveling cement floors for hamlet offices; building and repairing 11 gratitude houses, building 29 new Great Unity houses, etc. In addition, many people donated land to build rural traffic roads, build sub-regional dykes to prevent floods in hamlets along the Vam Co River.

The upgraded and expanded roads create favorable conditions for people to travel.

In 2024 alone, the authorities and people of Phuoc Chi commune upgraded and expanded 10 roads with a length of more than 10km, with a total cost of more than 3.1 billion VND. Of which, 3 roads were donated 3,000 bags of cement by FICO Tay Ninh Cement Joint Stock Company for concrete.

In addition to the support of businesses and philanthropists, local people also contributed funds and labor days for construction. Specifically, 1,000 bags of cement were supported to concretize 2 roads in Phuoc Dan hamlet, including: Branch road of group 9, 300 meters long, people contributed an additional 100 million VND and 200 labor days; Branch road of group 11, 160 meters long, people contributed 65 million VND and 100 labor days.

In addition, PH4 road, Phuoc Hung hamlet, 1,800 meters long, was supported with 2,000 bags of cement, and people contributed 250 working days.

Phuoc Chi Commune People's Committee allocated 700 million VND from the budget, the remaining amount was sponsored by Quang Sau Trang Bang Company Limited. After completion, the above roads will be spacious, clean, facilitating the transportation of goods and travel of people.

Rural traffic projects jointly built by the State and the People have been effective, creating convenience for students to go to school.

Mobilizing and promoting the effectiveness of socialized resources

Vice Chairman of Phuoc Chi Commune People's Committee Tran Minh Tung said that the commune currently has about 57 rural roads, which are included in the medium-term public investment for the period 2026-2030. Due to the high cost, the commune has a direction to continue mobilizing businesses and people to implement it together. Those who have money can pay, those who have labor can contribute with labor, so that in the coming time, all roads in Phuoc Chi commune will be concreted, asphalted, and convenient for travel.

Local people discuss solutions and good practices to develop family economy and contribute to building their homeland.

In order to mobilize and promote the combined strength of the entire political system and society to participate in the successful implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province has just issued a Plan to implement the National Target Program on New Rural Construction in 2025.

Accordingly, the province continues to improve and enhance the quality of basic infrastructure systems serving production and people's lives in rural areas, in the direction of meeting requirements and improving quality; focusing on investing in building rural socio-economic infrastructure according to new rural standards in the 2021-2025 period./.
