According to Mr. Le Thuc Dinh, Head of the Department of Science and International Cooperation, PN-KB National Park Management Board, the KDTSQ has an area of 515,830 hectares with a population of about 159,325 people. Of which, the core area of 123,326 hectares is the entire area of PN-KB National Park; the buffer zone of 220,055 hectares includes 7 bordering communes; and the transition area of 172,449 hectares spread over 10 neighboring communes.

“When an area is recognized as a world biosphere reserve, there will be many benefits in terms of conservation and development, while contributing to the country in implementing international commitments on biodiversity,” Mr. Dinh emphasized.
This title is expected to bring many positive impacts. According to Mr. Dinh, first of all, the conservation value of the Biosphere Reserve will help protect one of the largest and oldest tropical karst regions in the world, which has more than 447 caves and many endemic and rare species of flora and fauna. The ecosystems of primary forests, evergreen forests, underground rivers and caves will be maintained, minimizing the risk of degradation and overexploitation.

Along with that, the socio -economic value is enhanced. With the international brand, PN-KB can attract many domestic and foreign tourists, opening up opportunities for eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and homestay services. The local community will benefit from green livelihood models such as sustainable agricultural and forestry production, medicinal plant cultivation, and OCOP product development. At the same time, the title also helps increase access to international capital sources and programs to support conservation and community development.

Scientific and educational values are guaranteed. This will be a site for interdisciplinary research on geology, biology, climate, indigenous culture, and at the same time a “living laboratory” to organize environmental education programs and raise awareness of conservation.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Dinh, the value of international cooperation is increased. PN-KB has the opportunity to connect with the network of KDTSQ and national parks around the world, expand cooperation in research, management, sustainable tourism development, and promote the image of Quang Tri and PN-KB to the world.
According to experts, if recognized, PN-KB will not only be a world natural heritage but also become a model of integrated resource management and sustainable development, affirming Vietnam's global value.
