Eradicating illiteracy - improving rural knowledge
Over the years, Ninh Binh has not only affirmed its long-standing tradition of learning but also pioneered in improving the quality of education in rural areas. Thanks to the effective combination of illiteracy eradication and the advanced new rural development program, many localities in the province have formed “knowledge bright spots”, contributing to sustainable socio -economic development.
Ninh Binh has implemented the illiteracy eradication work according to the motto "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every subject". Thanks to that, all people of working age have access to basic education programs, improving their reading, writing, calculation and social understanding. Literacy classes are organized flexibly, suitable to the specific work and life of the people, especially in rural areas far from the center.
In Nghia Hung commune, literacy work is linked to community activities such as study clubs, health and law propaganda sessions. In Hoa Lu, Gia Hung, Truc Ninh and Hai Hau, similar models are also implemented, combining adult education with life-improving activities such as agricultural production technical guidance and improving living conditions. Thanks to that, people not only know how to read and write but also have the ability to apply knowledge into practice, contributing to increasing labor productivity and improving life.
Sharing about the process of learning to read and write, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (Tan Minh commune) said: “Before, I did not know how to read or write, so I had to rely on my children and grandchildren to go to the market or sign documents. When I joined the literacy class, I learned each letter and each calculation. Now I can manage my family's books and read newspapers and books.”
Many other students also expressed pride in completing the program: they became role models in the community, inspiring younger generations and spreading the spirit of lifelong learning. The results of the annual universal education test show that the literacy rate in the communes of Nghia Hung, Truc Ninh, Hai Hau, and Y Yen is always above 99%. These figures demonstrate the effectiveness of the illiteracy eradication work associated with the construction of advanced new rural areas.
Universal education - the foundation of new rural areas
Along with the work of eliminating illiteracy, Ninh Binh pays special attention to improving the quality of universal education at all levels. The school system has been upgraded, teaching equipment has been more modern, teachers have been trained to improve their professional qualifications, and extracurricular programs and practical experiences have also been widely implemented.
Hai Hau commune is a typical example, where many primary and secondary schools have applied modern teaching methods, combining theory and practice. Students not only master basic knowledge but also develop thinking skills, creativity, master technology and integrate well with advanced educational models. Nghia Hung, Truc Ninh, Y Yen, Hoa Lu communes also implemented similarly, paying special attention to maintaining student numbers and reducing dropout rates.

Mr. Tran Van Quang, a parent in Yen Dong commune, shared: “My child studies at a newly built primary school with a library and a laboratory. We feel secure because our child is studying in a good environment, learning to read and write while practicing life skills. Today’s education really helps children become more confident and know how to apply knowledge to life.”
The universal education program associated with the construction of advanced new rural areas is also reflected in the attention of localities to the school environment, school health care and student support services. Improving school infrastructure, building libraries, laboratories and playgrounds helps students have comprehensive learning conditions, while contributing to improving the quality of life of the community. Thanks to that, education is not only the task of the school but also becomes a solid foundation for sustainable socio-economic development in rural areas.
In fact, Ninh Binh has cleverly combined the work of eliminating illiteracy and universalizing education with the program of building new rural areas, turning challenges in educational attainment into opportunities for knowledge development. The communes of Nghia Hung, Truc Ninh, and Hai Hau have become typical "bright areas" where knowledge is spread, life is improved, and the spirit of lifelong learning becomes a typical cultural feature. This success is not only the pride of Ninh Binh province but also a valuable lesson for many other localities in the country.
