Over the past 2 years, Mr. Tuan has expanded his herd to hundreds of pigs. Each year, he sells more than 50 commercial pigs and breeding pigs to the market at prices ranging from 150,000 to 180,000 VND/kg. Revenue brings in more than 150 million VND/year.
In addition, to help the pig herd grow to ensure quantity and delicious meat quality, Mr. Tuan grows water spinach, sweet potato leaves, bananas and buys wine lees to use as food. Recently, he also ordered thousands of large-leaf tea trees from the northern provinces to plant to treat intestinal diseases in pigs.
Mr. Tuan added that wild boars are adaptable to the weather and have little loss. Because the terrain here is low and prone to flooding, he built a high cement floor for the pigs to sleep on and to prevent flooding. In addition, he also built a biogas tank to process waste into gas, limiting pollution to the environment.
After raising the piglets for about 1-2 months, he separates them from their mothers so that they grow quickly and are easier to care for. When the pigs reach a weight of about 6-10kg, he starts selling them as breeding pigs, and when they reach about 30kg, he sells them as commercial pigs. His markets for wild boars are in Quang Nam and Da Nang .
In Duy Vinh commune, Mr. Tuan is the first household to raise wild boars. He said he is willing to share his experience and support other households with breeding pigs when needed.
In the coming time, he plans to expand the scale of the farm, select and develop the pig herd to have a more abundant supply of commercial pork to the market.
