75-year-old man happy to be issued ID card after more than 30 years of waiting

Mr. Hue said that for more than 30 years, he and his children have not been issued identification papers because their Vietnamese or Cambodian nationality has not been determined, so it is very difficult every time they leave the locality.

He and his son also cannot have their names on any vehicle registration or real estate documents because they do not have any identification.

"Now that we have been granted identity cards under the new Law on Identity Cards, my children and I feel more secure in our work and lives. I am very happy and thank the State and the police very much," Mr. Hue confided.

Since 7 a.m. today, the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order of Kien Giang Provincial Police and the police of 15 districts and cities have started issuing ID cards to children under 6 years old, from 6 to under 14 years old, from 14 years old and above, and issuing ID certificates to people of Vietnamese origin whose nationality has not been determined.

In addition, strengthen the dissemination of regulations, documents guiding implementation, new points of the Law on Identification, iris biometrics and the superiority of the Law on Identification.

The 2023 Law on Identification has many new points compared to the 2014 Law on Citizen Identification, including switching from issuing citizen identification cards to identity cards; issuing identity certificates to people of Vietnamese origin whose nationality is not yet determined.
