On the morning of September 30, the leader of Bac Trach commune, Quang Tri province confirmed that the search force of the local government and the provincial military command had just discovered two bodies washed ashore in this commune, suspected to be missing crew members in the shipwreck.
"Currently, the police are conducting autopsies and verifying identities to determine whether they are those missing from the ship that sank due to storm No. 10 on the night of September 28," the leader said.
Accordingly, 2 bodies were found at 6am and about 2km apart. One was discovered in Tien Phong village, the other was found on the beach of Thanh Xuan village, both in Bac Trach commune. However, specific information about the bodies has not been provided by the authorities.
Previously, at 11:30 p.m. on September 28, two fishing boats with 13 crew members were anchored at Xuan Loc residential group, Bac Gianh ward (near Gianh bridge) when the anchor rope suddenly broke due to heavy rain and storm.
The boats drifted free and sank. Immediately after the incident, 4 crew members swam to shore safely, while 9 are missing.
A day later, authorities discovered one of the two sunken boats drifting ashore in Bac Trach commune in an upside down state. Authorities were considering a plan to destroy the boat to find the victims inside.
But the waves are so strong that the ship-breaking work has not yet been completed. It is expected to continue today.
