The unique and distinctive cultural features of the ethnic groups have created an important premise for Van Ho to develop community tourism. Currently, many community tourism villages are well-known, such as Buot, Na Bai, Phu Mau, Chieng Yen commune; Hua Tat, Chieng Di, Van Ho commune... Coming here, visitors can participate in community activities, experience farming and enjoy dishes with the rich flavor of the mountains and forests and immerse themselves in the bustling bell dance and flute dance.
By creating a breakthrough in developing community tourism, Mai Chau district has become an attractive name for tourists and is facing many new opportunities to reach new heights of development... The whole district has nearly 150 tourist accommodation establishments, 7 community tourism spots, 12 hotels, 28 motels, 106 homestays, attracting and creating jobs for over 1,200 workers in the tourism sector.
In Mai Chau district, there are 15 tourism and trade projects that have been approved for investment by the Provincial People's Committee, with a total registered capital of over 1,178 billion VND. All projects are large in scale and capable of meeting the demand for high-quality resorts for tourists. From these efforts, the trade, service and tourism sector has accounted for the largest proportion in the district's economic structure (accounting for 37% in 2024), exceeding the target set by the Resolution of the 26th District Congress.
In order to promote the potential and advantages of Son La for sustainable tourism development, the Resolution of the 15th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, has identified 3 breakthroughs and 9 key tasks and solutions. In which, the tourism sector is identified as an important key task group.
Recognizing the role of tourism development as a key economic sector, creating a driving force to promote the development of other sectors and fields, contributing significantly to the formation of a modern and sustainable economic structure, in recent years, Son La has focused on developing sustainable tourism associated with preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, tangible and intangible cultural heritages and local products; developing eco-tourism and resorts associated with protecting and embellishing the landscape and environment. Taking cultural tourism with the core value of traditional national cultural identity as the foundation for forming other types of tourism; developing natural tourism as a unique product to increase competitiveness. Encouraging the expansion of community tourism development, creating jobs and linking it with hunger eradication and poverty reduction and new rural development; taking the advantage of agriculture to create attractive tourism products.
