On June 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - National Defense Academy held a Conference to exchange experiences and solutions in leading and directing the implementation of national defense and security work in Ho Chi Minh City.

The conference was chaired by Comrade Phan Van Mai, member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and Senior Lieutenant General Tran Viet Khoa, member of the Party Central Committee, Director of the National Defense Academy.

Also attending the conference were: Lieutenant General Dao Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of the National Defense Academy; Lieutenant General Bui Huy Biet, Deputy Political Commissar of the National Defense Academy; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nam, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Command; Major General Tran Duc Tai, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police.

Comrade Phan Van Mai said at the conference that Ho Chi Minh City is not only a key economic area, but also an important area for national defense and security of the whole country, the region and the world. Therefore, it is necessary to have the central government's investment focus on Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the efforts of Ho Chi Minh City in investing in itself. Investment is not only a source of capital but also a concern for leadership, monitoring, direction, inspection, supervision, and timely correction.

Ho Chi Minh City is the locomotive and driving force of the country's development, but in recent times, its economy has declined, its competitiveness compared to urban areas in the country, the region, and the world has also declined. When the economy declines, national defense and security are challenged. Therefore, investment in economic development must be closely linked to ensuring national defense and security.

The conference also comprehensively assessed the leadership and direction of the implementation of the work of building and strengthening national defense and security in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, the conference also clarified the advantages, limitations and lessons learned in implementation, and proposed directions, goals, tasks and solutions to strengthen the construction and consolidation of national defense and security in Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.
