The Deputy Prime Minister sent his deepest condolences to Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki and all staff of the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi.
Writing in the condolence book at the Embassy, the Deputy Prime Minister emotionally wrote: The leaders and people of Vietnam deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Murayama Tomoiichi, a great and close friend of the leaders and people of Vietnam.
On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister sent his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Japan and the family of former Japanese Prime Minister Murayama Tomoiichi.
The passing of former Japanese Prime Minister Murayama is not only a great loss to Japan, but also to the international community, including Vietnam. His special affection and support for the country and people of Vietnam, as well as the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan, are invaluable assets to the bilateral relationship.
The historic visit of the late Prime Minister to Vietnam in 1994 as Japanese Prime Minister opened up many opportunities, bringing the friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Japan into a new stage of development, especially in the fields of economy, culture, and people-to-people exchange...

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Government and people of Vietnam always remember and appreciate the special feelings and great contributions that the late Prime Minister always gave to the country and people of Vietnam during his lifetime, both as Prime Minister of Japan and as Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship and Peace Promotion Council.
As close friends with the spirit of "affection, sincerity, and trust", the two sides will together overcome this great pain and loss, continue the path taken by the late Prime Minister Murayama, and further develop the Vietnam - Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama passed away on October 17, 2025, at his hometown in Oita Prefecture (Japan), at the age of 101. Mr. Murayama became the first leader of the Socialist Party to hold the position of Prime Minister of Japan, from June 1994 to January 1996.
