Chieng Sung women develop economy

Over the years, the Women's Union of Chieng Sung commune has actively participated in patriotic emulation movements, supported members in accessing science and technology, developed practical economic models, improved living standards and become a support and companion for members.

Ms. Vi Thi Hiep, President of the Women's Union of Chieng Sung commune, said: The union has 2,346 members, operating in 24 branches. Of which, 170 members are poor, 189 members are near-poor. Based on the fact that members' lives are still difficult, the union has actively implemented emulation movements and suitable economic models to increase income and sustainably reduce poverty. Coordinated to open many training classes to transfer new production techniques, provide consultation and introduce jobs. Thanks to that, members have changed their thinking and working methods, boldly applying scientific and technical advances to production. At the same time, the union also creates conditions for members to access preferential loans. Since the beginning of the year, 12 savings and loan groups have been established, with a total outstanding debt of more than 12 billion VND from Mai Son Social Policy Bank. Post-loan inspection and supervision work is maintained regularly, helping members use capital for the right purposes and improve production efficiency.

The movement “Women help each other develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty” has spread strongly in many villages. In Cao Son village, women are encouraged to convert land from growing ineffective trees to valuable fruit trees. Ms. Do Thi Thu Huong said: Before, I mainly grew corn, since 2013, I switched to growing fruit trees. Currently, my family has 1.5 hectares of plums, 3,000 m² of custard apples, 4 hectares of sweet corn and squash, each year harvesting about 30 tons of plums, 4 tons of custard apples, 60 tons of corn, 10 tons of squash, earning over 300 million VND after deducting expenses, creating seasonal jobs for 10-15 local workers.

In Sai Luong village, the Women's Union has supported and encouraged members to change the crop structure to develop the economy. Ms. Ca Thi Huong, the head of the union, said: The union has 176 members, mainly working in agriculture . The members have actively changed the crop structure, expanding nearly 6 hectares of longan and 5 hectares of corn and sugarcane, with an average income of 180 million VND/year. In addition, many households also grow vegetables such as cucumbers and squash to increase profits.

To raise funds, the Association maintains 6 “Green House” models from recycled waste with the participation of 602 members; raising 3 million VND for visiting and supporting members in difficulty. In addition, the Association saved 280 million VND with 987 members participating, helping 26 members borrow capital for production. To date, the Association fund has reached 380 million VND, supporting more than 30 members in difficult circumstances and lending for economic development.

Along with economic development, the Commune Women's Union has also effectively implemented patriotic emulation movements and campaigns associated with "Building Vietnamese women of the new era"; the "Family of 5 no, 3 clean" movement; the "Clean house - Beautiful garden" model, which has been widely responded to by members. Up to now, the Union has planted and cared for 10 flower roads, regularly cleaned 40 self-managed roads; organized 333 environmental sanitation campaigns, attracting more than 13,900 members to participate. Particularly on the occasion of launching the Tree Planting Festival, more than 700 people participated in planting 600 cherry blossom trees in the commune.

Focus on improving the spiritual life and knowledge of members, maintaining art and sports teams to unite the community; at the same time, promoting gender equality, preventing domestic violence, and reproductive health care. The association coordinated with population officers to communicate in Tong Tai B, Nam Luong, and Yen Binh villages with 254 participants, contributing to raising awareness of family planning, preventing early marriage and incestuous marriage.

Women in Chieng Sung commune are gradually asserting their role in developing the family economy, contributing to the construction of new rural areas. Effective economic models and practical social movements have helped members stabilize their lives, strive to get rich, and build an increasingly civilized and prosperous society.
