Dissemination of food safety regulations and commitments into the Halal market

(DN)- On October 23, in Dong Nai, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province to organize a conference to disseminate regulations and commitments on food safety and animal and plant quarantine (SPS) in the VIFTA and CEPA Agreements (Israel, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates).

Attending the conference were representatives of the National Information Office and Enquiry Point on Epidemiology and Animal and Plant Quarantine (Vietnam SPS Office), Halal market experts and agricultural production and trading enterprises in and outside the province.

The Halal market is a new and very potential market. The current Muslim population is 2 billion people, accounting for 25% of the world's population. The size of the global Halal economy is expected to increase to about 10 trillion USD by 2028. The Halal food market alone is expected to be nearly 5 trillion USD by 2024. Regarding tourism, in 2024, 176 million Muslims traveled internationally and could reach 230 million by 2030. Muslim tourism spending is expected to reach 325 billion USD by 2030. Priority markets include: Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Regarding policy development, major orientations for the Halal market include: Project on Strengthening International Cooperation to Build and Develop Vietnam's Halal Industry by 2030; Decree on Management of Halal Products and Services; Establishment of the National Halal Certification Center; Development of 6 Vietnam National Halal Standards.

Regarding difficulties, Vietnam does not yet have a synchronous Halal ecosystem that connects industries; has not yet formed a focal agency and overall strategy for Halal industry development...

The conference updated information on PSP measures of the Halal market and disseminated commitments on food safety and animal and plant quarantine in the VIFTA and CEPA Agreements; introduced the State's policies and orientations on the development of production and consumption of Halal products; shared experiences on the Halal market; regulations on labeling and packaging of products in the markets of Israel, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.

On this occasion, the working delegation including representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam SPS Office, production and business enterprises inside and outside the province visited the production process at the following companies: GC Food Joint Stock Company in Ho Nai Industrial Park (Ho Nai Ward); Long Son Food Company Limited (Long Binh Ward).
