National hero Tran Hung Dao was born in Tuc Mac village, Thien Truong district, old Nam Dinh province (now Ninh Binh province), belonging to the royal family of the Tran dynasty. His life and career were closely linked to the resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol invaders to keep the Dai Viet border peaceful by the Tran dynasty army and people in the 13th century.

During his lifetime, Duke Hung Dao always put national interests above personal interests, taught his generals and soldiers to be in harmony, with one mind; especially, his thought of "leniency and relaxation for the people to create a plan with deep roots and lasting foundation, that is the best policy to protect the country" still holds true today.
National hero Tran Hung Dao was not only a military genius, but also a great politician and cultural figure. His writings include: Proclamation to Soldiers, Essentials of Military Strategy, Secret Book of Van Kiep Sect...
On September 3, 1300 (August 20, Canh Ty year), Tran Hung Dao passed away at Van Kiep palace. After his death, King Tran conferred the title "Grand Master, Supreme Master, Martial Artist Hung Dao Dai Vuong" (a great king with perfect humanity and martial arts, the king's teacher, the person with the greatest merit to the country).

Talking about the talent and virtue of National Hero Tran Hung Dao, historian Ngo Thi Sy wrote in Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu : "Ngo Quyen defeated Liu Hong Thao's army, Tran Quoc Tuan captured O Ma Nhi both at Bach Dang River, this was the greatest martial art of our country, the reputation of heroes and dangerous mountains and rivers will last for thousands of years...".

In the minds of the Vietnamese people, Tran Hung Dao has become a saint - with the title of Saint Tran full of respect. The worship of Saint Tran has become a beautiful spiritual culture of the Vietnamese people in general, and Quy Nhon residents in particular.
The custom of holding the death anniversary of Saint Tran on the 20th day of the 8th lunar month every year has become a beautiful spiritual and cultural feature for Quy Nhon people, contributing to educating patriotism, solidarity and national pride.
