At 41, Robben is one of the former footballers who turned to marathons after retiring. In 2023, he made headlines when he completed the 42.195 km distance at the Rotterdam Marathon in 2 hours 58 minutes 33 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 4 minutes 14 seconds/km.

This achievement helped Robben finish in 1,188th place, an impressive number for an amateur athlete. Although he cannot be compared with the top runners, the former Bayern Munich star still received admiration from many fans for his success in a completely new field.

Sharing after finishing, Robben admitted: "I have experienced many challenges in my career, and many times had to try to the end, but this time it was truly a true battle."

The former Dutch footballer said this was his best achievement since trying his hand at marathons: "I'm no longer a professional footballer, but completing a marathon in under three hours is a high-level achievement. It's almost like winning a major football title. It's great to be able to mark that milestone in my new journey."

Initially, Robben set a goal of finishing within a certain time. However, when entering the final kilometers, Robben was forced to change his mind: "At one point, I just thought that I had to survive and finish the first marathon, I couldn't give up."

Before hanging up his boots in 2021, Robben had an illustrious 21-year career, playing for clubs such as Groningen, PSV, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
