Long Thanh Airport: Focusing on construction, ensuring to welcome technical flights on December 19

On October 10, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said that the joint venture of contractors for Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh Airport) is focusing all resources, mobilizing 14,000 workers, 3,000 construction equipment "3 shifts, 4 crews" in the bidding packages... to ensure that Long Thanh Airport welcomes the first technical flight on December 19, 2025, and puts into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026.

According to ACV, Long Thanh airport has 15 packages, of which 3 have been completed and 12 are under construction; of which, the passenger terminal - the most important part of the project - has basically completed the construction. The contractor is completing the roofing at the wing area and the central area; steel structure of the telescopic bridge area; installing glass walls; stone tiling; construction of electrical systems, water supply and drainage, and fire protection.

Regarding equipment installed at the terminal such as baggage handling system, security screening, escalators, stairwells, elevators are being accelerated in production, some equipment has been installed. It is expected that in November 2025, security screening machines (SSE), EDS CB3 CT scanners and automatic tray return equipment, Body Scan in the security check area for international and domestic passengers' carry-on baggage will be transferred to the construction site and installed before December 19, 2025.

The internal port traffic and technical infrastructure package is being urgently constructed; in which the priority Tuynen routes have been basically completed to deploy the installation of equipment for water supply, drainage, electricity, and ICT systems. The power supply station and energy center are expected to basically complete the construction part to install equipment by the end of October. The overpass connecting the passenger terminal will be completed before December 19, 2025. It is expected that by the end of November 2025, the electrical items serving the power supply to the passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, and other stations will be completed.

The runway, taxiway, and apron package has basically completed the runway. Long Thanh airport welcomed its first calibration flight at the end of September. The taxiway and apron items are being urgently constructed, ensuring that they will be basically completed before December 19, 2025.

Bidding packages such as fuel supply system; parking garage; installation and supply of airport management system equipment; construction of cargo terminal No. 1 and auxiliary works; second runway; traffic connection, the joint contractor is mobilizing thousands of workers and construction machinery, the bidding packages are 3 to 6 months ahead of schedule.

According to ACV, in September 2025, there were 21 rainy days at the Long Thanh airport construction site. This seriously affected the construction work, disrupting many items, especially underground works such as tunnels, drainage systems, and roadbeds. Despite the unfavorable weather, contractors have made efforts and come up with many measures to overcome difficulties, ensuring the progress of the Long Thanh airport project.
