(Dan Tri) - It is expected that from 8:00 a.m. on November 24, Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant (Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam Province) will operate to discharge water with a total flow of 200-1,500 m3/s.


On the afternoon of November 23, Song Tranh Hydropower Company issued a notice on the operation of Song Tranh 2 reservoir to ensure the water level does not exceed the lowest flood level of 173m, and at the same time switch to operating mode according to regulations.

According to information from Song Tranh Hydropower Company, at 4:00 p.m. on November 23, the lake water level reached 170.55 m, the water flow into the lake was 893 m3/s, the water discharge through the machine was 206 m3/s, and there was no overflow.

Song Tranh Hydropower Company said that this operation is to comply with the direction of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Quang Nam province; ensure the lake water level does not exceed the prescribed level and switch to flood reduction mode for downstream according to the inter-lake process.

The expected start time of operation is 8am on November 24, with the total expected regulated flow from 200-1,500m3/s, depending on the water flow to the lake.

According to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Quang Nam province, in the past 24 hours, from 7:00 p.m. on November 22 to 6:00 p.m. on November 23, localities in this province had rain, moderate rain, and in some places heavy rain to very heavy rain.

Rainfall measured in some places exceeded 100mm, such as Tra Leng commune (Nam Tra My district) 165mm, Tra Giap commune (Bac Tra My district) 165mm, Tam Tra commune (Nui Thanh district) 148mm, Ho Nuoc Ron (Bac Tra My district) 139mm, Tam Lanh commune (Phu Ninh district) 105mm, Phuoc Hiep commune (Phuoc Son district) 103mm.

It is forecasted that from 4pm on November 23 to 10pm on November 24, localities in Quang Nam province will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places. Total rainfall in the northern localities of the province is generally 20-40mm, in some places higher than 60mm; in the southern plains 30-60mm, in some places over 80mm; in the southern mountainous areas 70-140mm, in some places over 180mm.

From November 23 to 24, rivers in Quang Nam province are likely to experience a flood. The flood level in the upstream reaches 2-4m, and in the downstream reaches 0.5-1.5m.

Flood peaks on specific rivers are as follows: on Vu Gia River at alert level 1 to below alert level 2, on Thu Bon River at below alert level 1 to above alert level 1, and on Tam Ky River at below alert level 1.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams in mountainous areas; landslides on steep slopes, and land subsidence in the districts of Bac Tra My, Hiep Duc, Nam Giang, Nam Tra My, Nong Son, Nui Thanh, Phu Ninh, Phuoc Son, Que Son, Tay Giang, and Tien Phuoc.
