Surveying many fashion stores in Ha Tinh, it is easy to see a series of signs saying "Sale Off", "Same price 79k", "Discount up to 40%," or "Buy 1 get 4 free".
Summer items such as t-shirts, shorts, dresses, sandals… are deeply discounted, some products are only half the original price.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Nga - an employee of Savani fashion store (Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh ) said: "This time the company is discounting all summer products to prepare for the arrival of fall and winter products. The discount is from 40% - 70%, so it attracts a large number of customers, most of the customers buy 2-3 sale products, some buy dozens of items. The peak hours, with the most customers, are late afternoon and evening."

Taking advantage of the end of the day to go shopping with her husband, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thao (Cam Binh commune, Ha Tinh) chose many cheap items that were to her liking and guaranteed quality. “Every year, I don’t buy before summer. Instead, I buy clothes after summer because this is the time when shops sell off their products, deeply discount to push out the end of the season, so it saves more money,” Ms. Thao shared.
However, Ms. Thao believes that this method only applies to people with simple fashion taste, who do not follow trends. Because if someone likes to buy stylish items, it is easy to fall into a situation where they are out of fashion next year and no longer want to use them.

In addition to the big brands, many small fashion shops in the area are also "sprinting" to clear out inventory. Usually, in shops specializing in selling popular goods, the sale prices are also very attractive, ranging from 30,000 - 200,000 VND/product depending on the design and quality. Unlike reputable fashion brands, most of the products in these stores are old and out of fashion, so they are very picky about customers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh, owner of Nhung Kiu fashion shop (Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh) shared: “Every mid-October, our store sells off almost all summer items at discounted prices from 10,000 to 100,000 VND depending on the design and quality. In addition, some new fall-winter items are also on sale to attract customers. Every day, the store sells nearly 50 products, with purchasing power decreasing by about 20% compared to last year.”

According to shop representatives, fashion is a trendy item, if it is not sold next year it will be defective and very difficult to sell. Therefore, many shop owners in Ha Tinh accept selling at a loss compared to the initial investment capital.
On average, each imported dress costs between 200,000 and 400,000 VND. However, due to the change of season and the lack of demand for the old model, Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Anh, owner of Anh Cong fashion shop (Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh) decided to sell the product at a flat price of 79,000 VND/product to recover capital.
“The price is so cheap, but customers are still hesitant, afraid of poor quality. Actually, all the products are good, with tags still intact, just old models so hard to sell. Now selling at a loss is better than having unsold products,” said Ms. Anh.

From a consumer perspective, Ms. Tran Ngoc Minh Anh (Thien Cam commune, Ha Tinh) expressed: “For new, beautiful products, the price is still high, even if there is a discount, it is only 5-10%. As for the sale items of 50-80%, most of them are clothes and items that are not suitable for me. Therefore, I am not very interested in this discount period.”

Many shop owners admit that customers are now more "difficult" than before, especially young people. "They like differences and quick updates on trends, while the goods in the province are mainly sourced from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, so they are often half a season behind," said Ms. Hoang Thi Lan, owner of fashion shop HuA & HuA (Cam Xuyen commune, Ha Tinh).
However, shops are still hopeful for the upcoming fall and winter. Many shop owners said they are preparing to import new products, focusing on warm materials, dynamic designs, and easy to coordinate to welcome a more prosperous fall and winter.
