Urgent remedy
Previously, according to a report from the People's Committee of Cua Lo ward, storm Bualoi swept through and caused heavy damage to the Cua Lo Education sector, with 23/26 schools affected, such as the roofs of classrooms, the administration building, functional rooms, and damaged teaching equipment, toys and utensils.
Specifically, the ceilings of some classrooms and hallways at Xanh Tue Duc Primary and Secondary School collapsed. Nghi Thu Primary School had its roof blown off and many old trees broken and uprooted. Hai Hoa Secondary School, Thu Thuy Primary School, Nghi Tan Kindergarten, and Nghi Thuy Kindergarten had their roofs blown off and classrooms flooded due to high tides.

Thu Thuy Primary School is one of the most severely damaged educational units in Cua Lo, with two classrooms having their roofs blown off and the rising tide causing flooding of more than 1 meter. Facilities and teaching equipment were severely damaged.
On the morning of September 30, nearly 100 teachers, ward police officers and officers and soldiers of military units in Cua Lo ward were mobilized to support Thu Thuy Primary School in urgently overcoming storm and flood damage.

However, the current repair work mainly focuses on cleaning up and pushing mud out of the school yard, washing desks, chairs, classrooms, and cutting down corrugated iron sheets that were blown off classroom roofs by the storm.
The work of replacing waterlogged teaching equipment, installing new roofs, repairing damaged facilities, etc. is facing many difficulties because the current funding source mainly depends on the school or from other sources of support.

At Nghi Thu Primary School, storm No. 10 blew off the roof and damaged 3 classrooms and many trees in the school were broken. After 1 day, the repair work is being urgently carried out by teachers, parents and officers and soldiers of the North Central Mobile Police Regiment.
During the morning, 8 trees that had fallen in the school were trimmed and cleared. The entire school grounds are also being cleaned up to be completed within the day.

Next to Nghi Thu Primary School, Le Thi Bach Cat Secondary School also suffered damage to many items. In addition to the roof of the 3-story classroom building being blown off, the school also had a fence over 30 meters long collapsed and the student parking garage was severely damaged.
Joining the support force, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thai Son - Deputy Captain of the gathering team - Nghe An Provincial Military Command said: Immediately after the storm passed, our unit mobilized more than 70 officers and soldiers to support flood relief for Nghi Thuy Primary School, Nghi Thu Primary School and Le Thi Bach Cat Secondary School.
Although a large number of corrugated iron sheets and tiles were damaged, the unit is determined to complete the cleanup today so that the schools can soon stabilize their classrooms.

Meanwhile, at Nghi Thuy Primary School, the two-story classroom building, built in 1982, was already old and dilapidated. When storm Bualoi swept through, it completely blew away the corrugated iron roof, along with many pieces of concrete, bricks and stones, into the school yard. Many classrooms could not be used because of water seepage, cracked walls and ceilings, etc., posing a potential safety risk.
Faced with this reality, the school has urgently moved all equipment such as computers, televisions, fans and student desks and chairs from classrooms on the second floor to functional rooms and departments such as Fine Arts, Youth Union rooms, etc. in other buildings that were not damaged.
At the same time, arrange and reinstall necessary equipment to temporarily move students to these rooms to ensure safety. The classrooms on the first floor have been cleaned and sanitized by teachers for continued use.

At Nghi Tan Secondary School, the two-story building containing functional rooms and subject rooms such as IT, English, Music, Youth Union, etc. had its corrugated iron roof blown off, causing rainwater to flow down and damage many equipments. This morning, with the support of local forces and soldiers, the school cleaned up the school yard, rearranged equipment, and machinery. Because the classrooms were not severely affected, Nghi Tan Secondary School is expected to welcome students back soon. The functional rooms will gradually fix the situation and prevent students from going near dangerous areas, and repairs are being carried out in the school.
Organizing local teaching and learning again after the storm
Inspecting the flood recovery work at schools in Cua Lo ward, Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training shared the difficulties and hardships of schools when continuously facing 2 dangerous storms in just 1 month. Besides, he highly appreciated the efforts of schools, the urgent and timely intervention of local authorities and functional forces in supporting schools to overcome storms and floods.

The department's leaders also acknowledged the flexibility of the schools. Although many classrooms are currently damaged and cannot be put into use, the schools have quickly come up with solutions such as transferring functional rooms and offices to prioritize classrooms for students.
According to reports from schools, today, cleaning and repairing damage will be completed soon so that tomorrow morning or at the latest Thursday morning, students in Cua Lo ward will soon return to school.

The Director of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training also noted that local authorities should direct the organization of localized teaching. Schools that have basically overcome the consequences of the storm can welcome students back to school earlier. As for schools that have suffered heavy damage and have been taking a long time to repair, they can only resume teaching when safety is assured.

In the coming time, the Department also hopes that localities and schools will take advantage of funding sources, support sources, and call for socialization to gradually overcome the damage.
On this occasion, the Department of Education and Training also provided partial funding to encourage schools to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize teaching and learning.
Acknowledging the reality and through the report on the extent of damage to the school and the locality, the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An, Mr. Thai Van Thanh also requested Cua Lo ward to quickly make detailed statistics of the damage. In particular, pay special attention to some degraded and damaged works, and send them to the Department and the province to have a plan to soon arrange emergency construction funds, ensuring that students' studies are not interrupted.
