At the beginning of the video , Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel greeted Vietnam in 3 languages: Vietnamese, French and English.

He shared that taking on the position of the new Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam is a great privilege and an honor to work in a country with a rich culture, a dynamic economy and friendly people.

"It's been wonderful and inspiring! I'm very much looking forward to my term here," Ambassador Jim Nickel emphasized.

Having spent many years working in Asia, Ambassador Jim Nickel has witnessed firsthand the extraordinary transformation of the region and the power of cooperation in promoting inclusive growth. That experience has fostered in him a deep respect for Southeast Asia and the values that Canada and Vietnam share: openness, innovation and cooperation.

According to Ambassador Jim Nickel, Vietnam is Canada’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia and the two countries have many opportunities to further expand their economic relationship by promoting investment, enhancing cooperation in science , technology and innovation, and supporting businesses from both sides to succeed in each other’s markets. Furthermore, both countries are committed to promoting sustainable economic growth – a major advantage for the bilateral relationship.

Announcing the arrival of the first batch of Canadian blueberries in the Vietnamese market this year, Ambassador Jim Nickel said that this is just one example of the agricultural products that Canada wishes to share with Vietnam. He believes that Vietnamese consumers will love high-quality, safe agricultural products produced in sustainable Canadian processes.

In addition, the land of maple leaves is also contributing to the development of the growing aviation industry in Vietnam, from pilot training simulators to advanced aviation technologies. This contributes to improving connectivity, safety and innovation in the aviation sector of Vietnam.

Ambassador Jim Nickel expressed his delight that in recent years, the two countries have developed defense and security cooperation. Through the military training and cooperation plan, Canada has provided military training and education opportunities for Vietnamese officers.

Through battlefield first aid training, support for the development and implementation of staff officer training courses, the cooperation between the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and its Canadian partners will contribute to Vietnam’s goal of becoming a leading center for peacekeeping in the region. This strong relationship underscores the two countries’ shared commitment to regional defense, security and stability.

In addition, the two countries are also strengthening bilateral cooperation and jointly promoting border security and migration management through regular dialogue, joint training and capacity building efforts.

The new Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam affirmed that the focus of the bilateral relationship is to connect people and communities between the two countries. From students and business people to artists and community leaders, Canadians and Vietnamese continue to build bridges of knowledge and friendship, enriching both societies.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1973, Canada and Vietnam have jointly contributed to sustainable development, improving people’s livelihoods and addressing issues such as climate resilience – an increasingly important factor in the current context. This spirit of cooperation is demonstrated through efforts to support local communities, such as the recent Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) project in Nghe An, which provided humanitarian assistance to communities affected by storms and floods and strengthened local climate resilience.

According to Ambassador Jim Nickel, the relationship between Canada and Vietnam is built on shared values, mutual respect and a vision for a better future.

"I look forward to meeting my Vietnamese friends and working with them to continue deepening this relationship. From Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, from the Mekong Delta to the northern mountains – let's look forward to a bright future together!", Ambassador Jim Nickel shared.
