Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was elected to hold the position of Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee.

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of October 3, the Special Session of the People's Council of Can Tho City elected Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City.

At the meeting, the delegates of the People's Council of Can Tho City voted to dismiss Mr. Tran Van Lau from the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City due to being assigned other tasks by the Politburo .

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung requested the delegates of the Can Tho City People's Council to continue to thoroughly grasp and promptly concretize the resolutions of the Central Committee, the 7 key resolutions of the Politburo, the resolutions of the National Assembly , the Government and the Can Tho City Party Committee. These include Resolution 59 of the Politburo and Resolution 45 of the National Assembly on the development of Can Tho City.

Accordingly, each issued resolution must be quickly implemented, becoming a direct driving force for socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security. Resolutely remove "bottlenecks" in institutions, policy mechanisms, and unleash resources to create strong and sustainable changes for the city. Study the Central report on amending Resolution No. 59 and Resolution No. 45 to suit new realities.

At the same time, prioritize the effective allocation and use of resources, focusing on key projects and works on transport infrastructure, urban areas, logistics, healthcare, education, focusing on science and technology development, digital transformation, and application of artificial intelligence. Along with that, review and integrate synchronous planning, promote the advantages of Can Tho as the center of the Mekong Delta region, associated with expanding new development space, creating an attractive environment to attract investment.

According to Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung, another important content at this session of the Can Tho City People's Council is to carry out the procedure of dismissing Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Lau because he has been appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee and electing Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee.

With 95% of votes in favor, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was elected by the People's Council of Can Tho City to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City for the 2021-2026 term.

Thus, after 3 months of being appointed by the Central Government to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee after the merger, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was re-elected by the Can Tho City People's Council to the position of head of this local government.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen expressed his emotion and honor to receive the trust of the City People's Council delegates and Central leaders.

This is the second time in 2025 that he has taken on the task of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City on the basis of merging 3 localities (Can Tho, Soc Trang and Hau Giang), term 2021-2025, at a very special moment when Can Tho City has just concluded the 1st City Party Congress, term 2025-2030, with the confidence of the Party and State leaders, the expectations of the City's people for the development of the City in this term, striving by 2030 Can Tho must become a growth pole of the country, playing the role of a driving force for development, spreading and leading the Mekong Delta region.

With the responsibility assigned to him as the head of the City People's Committee, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen said he will make every effort, wholeheartedly, wholeheartedly, constantly cultivate, train, and strive in all aspects; vow to use all his abilities, knowledge, enthusiasm, and responsibilities, to properly and fully perform the assigned duties, tasks, and powers; be proactive, flexible, and creative in directing and operating, and determined to carry out all tasks well.

"In the immediate future, continue to stabilize the organization of the state administrative agencies at all levels to operate effectively and efficiently according to the 2-level government model, ensuring smooth, timely and quick administrative procedures for the people. Focus on directing the completion of the 2025 task plan, proactively research and propose solutions to remove existing bottlenecks to free up resources, propose new directions and solutions, close to reality to successfully implement the Resolution of the 1st City Party Congress, term 2025-2030, making the city an important nucleus of the Mekong Delta region," Mr. Tuyen pledged.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was born in 1969, his hometown is Yen Phuong commune, Yen Dinh district (old), Thanh Hoa province. He is a cadre who grew up from the grassroots, received formal training, and has a master's degree in economics and advanced political theory.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen has held many different positions in Can Tho province (before 2004) and Hau Giang province (before the merger) such as: Deputy Director of the Department of Finance of Hau Giang province; Chief of Office of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee; Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee (Hau Giang province); Permanent Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee.

On February 10, 2025, the Secretariat decided to transfer and appoint Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen to join the Executive Committee, Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2020-2025.

On February 20, 2025, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was elected by the People's Council of Can Tho City, term X, 2021-2026, to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City.

By July 2025, after merging 3 localities (Can Tho, Hau Giang and old Soc Trang) into the new Can Tho City, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee.

On October 3, 2025, he was elected by the People's Council of Can Tho City to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City.
