The event was attended by nearly 50 delegates from across Canada, including CVFS speakers who are members of the Communist Party of Canada, Marxist-Leninist Philip Fernandez and Steve Rutchinski.
With his deep understanding of the situation in Vietnam, Mr. Fernandez moderated the discussion, making it attractive to the participants. He integrated and interspersed videos of Vietnam's National Day celebrations, of the joy of the Vietnamese people at the victories and successes that he affirmed were achieved and built by Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party.
Mr. Fernandez, CVFS spokesman, said that after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Eastern bloc, many parties collapsed because they could not cope with it and find a direction. According to him, one of the great achievements of the Communist Party of Vietnam is that it has determined the direction to move forward in the new context, steadfastly following Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, and at the same time applying it appropriately to Vietnam's conditions.
At the Ottawa bridgehead, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Pham Vinh Quang gave an important speech mentioning Vietnam's fighting and development stages from 1930-1975 and 1975-2025 and a new turning point preparing for a new era of national development.
Participants were particularly interested in Vietnam’s success in national construction and development, in which Vietnam has made great progress in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Participants also said that Vietnam is playing a prominent role in the international arena, as a country that supports peace and friendship. Mr. Fernandez congratulated Vietnam on the historic milestone of celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day and expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to achieve new milestones in the era of development.
CVFS spokesman said that Vietnam's important resolutions are of core significance in its efforts to develop the economy, effectively address challenges, as well as the problem of corruption. According to him, Vietnam has gained independence and now, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the people are in control of their own destiny in a new stage of development.
At another point, Mr. Rutchinski, CVFS Executive Committee Member, expressed his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, for his legacy in building and developing Vietnam, especially in the current context of global change. He also expressed his desire to share his experiences with the Vietnamese people - who are continuing the 80-year tradition of success on the path of building socialism.
In general, the speakers and participants were very interested in Vietnam's progress over the past 80 years, through the strong transformation from economic growth and Vietnam's current international contribution. The discussion ended with an affirmation of the spirit of innovation in Vietnam, marked by the transformation in the development model, reforms in administrative rationalization, investment in human resources and science and technology.
