Accordingly, the sunken fishing boat had registration number BD 83019-TS, 22.6m long, 800CV capacity, fishing net, owned and captained by Mr. Nguyen Tran Ut (born in 1976, residing in An Quang Tay village, De Gi commune).

The fishing boat departed at 1:50 p.m. on October 4, from Ca Na Border Control Station (under Khanh Hoa Border Guard). At 10:30 p.m. the same day, while operating about 17 nautical miles southeast of Ca Na estuary, it was hit by an oil tanker named MS FAVOR traveling in a South-North direction.

Immediately after the accident, fishing boat BD 83019-TS sent out an emergency distress signal and was approached by fishing boat BV 95869 - TS captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Tao (born in 1989, residing in Cat Tien commune) operating nearby, rescuing 10/11 crew members. Captain Nguyen Tran Ut was missing, and it was believed he was trapped in the ship's cabin.

Currently, fishing boat BV 95869 - TS is on its way to bring 10 crew members in distress to Ca Na port (Khanh Hoa province). Meanwhile, fishing boat BD 83019-TS has completely sunk and lost connection to the journey monitoring.

Through an exchange with Mr. Nguyen Hung (born in 1990), captain of fishing boat BD 93966-TS near the fishing boat hit by the oil tanker, he said that after hitting fishing boat BD 83019-TS, the oil tanker continued its journey without organizing rescue and searching for fishing boat BD 83019-TS.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard Command checked the fishing vessel’s AIS positioning system, determined the location of the distressed vessel and neighboring fishing vessels to continue searching for the remaining missing captain. Specifically, the authorities contacted 6 vessels operating near this area to continue the search.

The Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard Command has also issued a document proposing the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Military Command, the Department of Agriculture and Environment to report to the National Search and Rescue Committee and request the Navy Command, the Coast Guard and the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center for Regions II and IV to mobilize means to search and rescue the remaining missing vessels and fishermen; at the same time, propose the Provincial People's Committee to notify, discuss, and request the Maritime Administration ( Ministry of Construction ) to direct the Maritime Port Authorities of the provinces to grasp information related to the oil tanker on the way to coordinate the solution.
