Accordingly, cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations will have 5 days off for the Lunar New Year 2026. Including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet from Monday, February 16, 2026 (ie December 29, At Ty year) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (ie January 4, Binh Ngo year).
Along with the 5 days off for Tet, civil servants and public employees get 4 consecutive days off every week.
Thus, the public sector agencies have 9 consecutive days of Lunar New Year holiday.
Regarding the National Day holiday in 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that civil servants and public employees will have 5 days off, from Saturday, August 29, 2026 to Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Specifically, September 2 and one adjacent day will be off, and the working day of August 31 will be swapped to Saturday, August 22.
The Ministry of Home Affairs requests that agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 arrange and organize on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to handle work continuously, ensuring good service to organizations and people.
In particular, note to assign officers and civil servants on duty to handle sudden and unexpected tasks that may occur during holidays and Tet according to regulations.
Ministries, agencies and localities have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, enterprises, organizations and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production, business, and economic and social activities.
This content aims to ensure supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, contribute to promoting economic growth, practice thrift, and combat waste before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.
Also according to the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs, agencies and units that do not have a fixed schedule of Saturday and Sunday every week will base on the specific program and plan of the unit to arrange a suitable schedule of holidays, in accordance with the provisions of law.
Regulations for employees in enterprises
For non-public sector employees, the Ministry of Home Affairs guides employers to decide on the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday options in 2026 as follows:
Lunar New Year: choose to take 1 day off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 4 days of the year of Binh Ngo; or 2 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 3 days of the year of Binh Ngo; or 3 days off at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 2 days of the year of Binh Ngo.
National Day: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 and choose one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1, 2026 or Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The Ministry of Home Affairs requires employers to notify employees of the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans in 2026 at least 30 days before implementation.
If a weekly day off coincides with a public holiday, the employee will be given a compensatory day off on the next working day.
The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees. The State also encourages more favorable agreements for employees.
