The elderly ladies helped pack the food. Everyone was eager to prepare hot meals to send to households in the flooded areas of Thai Nguyen .
In just three days (October 8-10), the people of Thai Hai tourist village sent more than 5,000 meals to support their compatriots who are struggling in the flooded area. Each meal includes hot rice balls/sticky rice, fried pork, sesame salt and filtered water. All food is raised, grown and processed by the villagers themselves.
What is more touching, as Ms. Le Thi Nga, Deputy of Thai Hai village, said: "After storm No. 11, the village also suffered landslides, damaging part of the landscape, but that is insignificant compared to the difficulties that people in many other communes and wards of Thai Nguyen are experiencing. We want to devote all our efforts to support, with the spirit of helping each other." According to Ms. Nga, tourism activities in the village have been temporarily suspended to make way for relief cooking.
In Nghe An, despite having just experienced heavy rain and floods due to the circulation of storm No. 10, people in many wards and communes in Nghe An temporarily put aside their work, staying up all night by the fire to cook green banh chung, prepare dried fish and peanuts, and prepare field meals and gifts of love... to send to people in flooded areas. People in Thu Bon commune ( Da Nang city) are also busy day and night wrapping banh tet, making meat soaked in fish sauce, papaya sauce... to send to the north.
The stories in Thai Hai, Thu Bon or Xu Nghe… are small pieces in the big picture of humanity and solidarity these days. There, people clearly see a spirit of sharing, not waiting for abundance, but knowing how to give even in difficult times.
