In women's football, Vietnam women's team in group B with Myanmar, Malaysia and the very strong Philippines. Myanmar is the current SEA Games runner-up, having won a silver medal at the most recent event in 2023.
The Philippine women's team is also a formidable opponent as it maintains a policy of using naturalized players or players with foreign blood in its squad. They also won the Southeast Asian championship in 2022 and won a bronze medal at the 31st SEA Games held the same year.
The remaining opponent, Malaysia, is considered much weaker. Therefore, Myanmar and the Philippines will be the two main opponents of the Vietnamese women's team in Group B of the SEA Games women's football this year.
In Group A, the Thai women's team will have to compete with Indonesia, Singapore and Cambodia. Compared to Group B, the home team's opponents are considered to be much more suitable.
The Thai women's team is also a force in women's football at the SEA Games with 5 gold medals, second only to Vietnam. To prepare for the tournament taking place at home, the Thai women's team sent a young squad to the Southeast Asian Women's Championship held last July, winning 4th place overall.
The group stage of women's football at the 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 4 to 7 in Chonburi province. The goal of the Vietnamese women's team is still to defend the gold medal.
