On the afternoon of October 21, the Vietnamese women's team had their first practice session in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games. The coaching staff this time included Mr. Lee Won Jae, the goalkeeper coach of the men's team.

"Mr. Lee Won Jae came to help our women's team while goalkeeper coach Nguyen Thi Kim Hong was busy with the Ho Chi Minh City women's club playing in the Asian Cup. When the men's national teams gather, Mr. Lee will return to coach Kim Sang Sik," coach Mai Duc Chung shared.

Korean factor in Vietnam women's team

Mr. Lee Won Jae is staying at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) housing area, so it is very convenient to support the women's team in training.

Right in the first working session with the Vietnamese women's team, Mr. Lee quickly assigned lesson plans to goalkeepers such as Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Khong Thi Hang and young goalkeeper Le Thi Thu.

The appearance of the legendary Korean goalkeeper brought significant inspiration to the Vietnamese women's team goalkeepers. Kim Thanh and Khong Thi Hang practiced very enthusiastically and made great efforts to score points with the coaching staff.

Opportunities for young players

The Vietnamese women's team has 26 players, currently lacking some personnel from the HCMC women's club, who will be added after the team plays in the Asian Cup. The list of players has nearly half of young faces and new recruits. These include Ngoc Minh Chuyen, Tran Nhat Lan, Luu Hoang Van, Ta Thi Hong Minh and Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu.

The appearance of many young players and the fact that coach Mai Duc Chung removed veteran Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung is clear evidence that the Vietnamese women's team is transferring generations and rejuvenating the squad.

"Tuyet Dung is getting old and her physical strength is declining. She is starting her coaching career at the club, so I am giving her the opportunity to stay at home. This is an opportunity for young players to show their skills. I hope they will soon integrate with their seniors to have the opportunity to compete," Coach Mai Duc Chung shared.

He continued: "I also do not call Vietnamese-American players to promote the internal strength of the Vietnamese women's team. If we have achievements without Vietnamese-American players, this is even more commendable."

Commenting on the group stage opponents in the women's football event of the 33rd SEA Games, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his confidence. He said: "The Philippines is also normal. We have met France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. There is nothing to be afraid of. Maybe they are afraid to meet us."

Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will train in Hanoi until November 20 before going to Japan for training. After that, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City and then go to Thailand to attend the 33rd SEA Games.
