Last night (October 17), FIFA announced the October FIFA rankings. This month, the Vietnamese team won two victories against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Although coach Kim Sang Sik's team won both matches with great difficulty, that helped the team catch up with Malaysia in Group F with 3 points less.

In addition, the Vietnamese team also received 13.7 points on the FIFA rankings. Thanks to that, the "Golden Dragons" have increased 3 places, from 114th to 111th in the world . If they win against Laos in November, coach Kim Sang Sik's team promises to continue to rise in the rankings.
Like the Vietnamese team, Malaysia received good news when they were awarded 13.3 points after two victories against Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Thanks to that, the "Tigers" increased by 5 places, from 123rd to 118th in the world. This is Malaysia's highest ranking in many years.
Before waiting for the final decision from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the case of illegally naturalizing 7 players, Malaysia tries to win every match and accumulate points on the FIFA rankings.
Thailand also received 13.17 points after two victories against Chinese Taipei in the Asian Cup qualifiers. Thanks to that, the “War Elephants” affirmed their number one position in Southeast Asia when they jumped 5 places, reaching 96th in the world. Thus, Thailand has returned to the world top 100 after a few months of being pushed down.
On the other hand, Indonesia received sadness. They were deducted 13.21 points and dropped 3 places to 122nd place in the world after two defeats against Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. Indonesia also lost the third place in Southeast Asian football to Malaysia. After these two defeats, coach Kluivert received a dismissal notice from the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI).

There was some movement at the top of the world. Spain consolidated their top spot with 5.39 points after beating Bulgaria and Georgia. Meanwhile, France lost 8.21 points after beating Azerbaijan and drawing with Iceland. That saw them lose their second place to Argentina.
Brazil, after losing to Japan, also dropped one place to 7th in the world, pushing the Netherlands up to 6th. Meanwhile, the two football powerhouses Italy and Germany both rose one and two places to 9th and 10th.
The Faroe Islands were the most impressive team last month, adding 37.95 points after defeating Montenegro and the Czech Republic. Thanks to that, they moved up 9 places to 127th in the world. Meanwhile, Niger also moved up 9 places to 108th in the world after surprisingly defeating Zambia and Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Africa.
