Vietnam U17 women's team beat Hong Kong (China), won ticket to 2026 Asian Finals

(NLDO) - On the afternoon of October 17, the Vietnam U17 women's team closed Group D of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Football Championship qualifiers, with the second victory over Hong Kong (China).

Right after the opening whistle, coach Okiyama Masahiko's students quickly took control of the game. The U17 women's team of Vietnam continuously pressured their opponents with fast play, high pressing and smooth sideline coordination against Hong Kong (China).

By the 6th minute, the game was clearly overwhelming as the girls in red controlled the ball almost completely, forcing their opponents to retreat deep to defend.

In the first half, the U17 women's team of Vietnam created a series of good chances. Linh Chi, Phuong Nghi and Hong Thai made the Hong Kong goal shake, but goalkeeper Yau Hazel made excellent saves. That made the two teams enter the break with a score of 0-0.

After the break, Coach Masahiko’s players continued to maintain pressure. In the 51st minute, Linh Chi fired a powerful long-range shot, but the opposing goalkeeper once again successfully blocked it.

It wasn't until the 66th minute that the tireless attacking efforts of the Vietnam U17 women's team were finally rewarded. From a skillful move in the penalty area, Ngo Hai Yen unleashed an accurate diagonal shot, opening the score 1-0 for the home team.

In the final minutes of the match, the Hong Kong U17 women's team tried to fight back, but the Vietnamese players still completely dominated the game. The away team only created a few not-so-dangerous long-range shots.

In the end, the Vietnam U17 women's team won 1-0, ending the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship qualifying round by topping Group D and securing the first ticket to the finals. Meanwhile, Hong Kong (China) ranked second with 3 points, while Guam was at the bottom of the table.

The 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship has only determined 5 teams, including Vietnam (first place) and host China, defending champion North Korea, Japan (runner-up) and South Korea (third place).
