Without conductor Messi, Argentina still started with great spirit. In the 6th minute, Lautaro Martinez missed a golden opportunity when goalkeeper Jose Contreras blocked at close range.
Nico Paz then regretfully shot from a distance and hit the post. It wasn't until the 31st minute that the deadlock was broken: Lautaro assisted Giovani Lo Celso to finish delicately into the bottom corner, opening the score 1-0 for Argentina.
Venezuela came back strongly in the second half and almost equalized in the 74th minute when Teo Quintero's shot hit the crossbar of Dibu Martinez's goal. In the final minutes, Lautaro continued to miss two good chances, while goalkeeper Contreras had a great day.
In the end, Argentina won 1-0 – a result that was enough to help them maintain their unbeaten streak, but also exposed concerns about their attack without Lionel Messi.
