As scheduled, from December 20 to 22, people in the three villages of Bai Truc, Tan Co, and Tan Hau (Tan Phong town, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province) are busy casting nets and harvesting red carp to serve people on the occasion of Ong Cong and Ong Tao Festival.

Local people said that the red carp farming profession has existed since ancient times. Normally, from the 8th lunar month, farmers start releasing fish fry, and by mid-December it is time to harvest.

Having been in the red carp farming business for many years, Ms. Le Thi Thai (Bai Truc village, Tan Phong town, Quang Xuong district) said that this year her family plans to sell more than 3 tons of fish to the market. By December 21, all of the fish had been ordered by traders.

Currently, Mrs. Thai's family sells red carp to traders inside and outside the province.

According to Ms. Thai, this year the fish quality is good but the selling price is not as high as previous years. Currently the price fluctuates between 80,000-100,000 VND/kg.

These days, people who raise red carp are busy harvesting. From early morning until late in the day, traders flock here to buy and collect fish.

Before Ong Cong and Ong Tao day, local people dredge ponds, pull nets, gather fish into small nets, and wait for traders to come and get their goods.

During transportation to consumption, carp will be packed in large water bags, pumped with oxygen.

According to statistics, in Tan Phong town, there are more than 300 households raising red carp. Because red carp brings high economic efficiency, for many years, the locality has regularly created conditions for people to accumulate land funds, converting from specialized rice growing areas to aquaculture land to increase income.
