On August 16, the Russian military thwarted two attempts by Kiev forces to attack the Kaluga region and the Crimean Peninsula with suicide drones.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that three drones were shot down in Kaluga early on August 16.
“At 5 a.m. (Moscow time) today, an attempt by the Kiev government to attack the Kaluga region with three drones was thwarted. The Russian missile defense system quickly detected and destroyed all the drones,” the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that the attack did not cause any damage or casualties.
In a later statement, the ministry said a fourth drone had been shot down by Russian air defense forces over the Crimean Peninsula.
“At 11:00 a.m. today (August 16), Russia thwarted Kiev’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using drones… Russian air defense systems detected and shot down the drone in the skies over Crimea.”
The attacks followed a series of failed attempts by Kiev forces to advance in different directions within the special military operations zone.
In the south of Donetsk, Ukrainian forces faced a fierce response from the Russian military. A spokesman for the Vostok Group of Forces (Russia) told TASS: “The commander of the artillery platoon, Lieutenant Marat Osanov from the Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Battlegroup, successfully struck the enemy positions in several frontline areas in the south of Donetsk. During the battles, artillerymen commanded by Osanov destroyed two Ukrainian guns and a group of automatic grenade launchers along with 10 soldiers.”
On the front line, Russian firepower showed incredible power.
In addition, the Group's artillery destroyed a Ukrainian Strela-10 short-range air defense system near Antonovka and an ammunition depot in Konstantinovka, according to the spokesman.
“Artillery fire destroyed a Strela-10 air defense missile system of the Ukrainian army in Antonovka, an ammunition depot in Konstantinovka, two positions north of Nikolskoye, armored fighting vehicles and soldiers near Zelyonoye Pole,” the spokesman added.
The Group's fighters also targeted concentrations of Ukrainian manpower and equipment near Velikaya Novosyolka, Staromayorskoye and Urozhainoye.
Several Ukrainian losses were also reported in the Kherson region. A source told reporters that the Russian Dnieper Group of Forces destroyed five ships of the Kiev forces in this direction.
Russian sources have also shared videos showing recent Lancet drone attacks on US-made M109 self-propelled howitzers, Slovakian-made Zuzana-2 self-propelled howitzers, and Spanish-made Alakran self-propelled mortars.
