The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said on October 9 that all health workers in the city strongly condemned and were outraged by the serious assault on medical staff that recently occurred at Vung Tau General Hospital.
According to the department, this is a serious violation of the law, infringing on the dignity and safety of medical staff, and directly threatening the humane and safe working environment in hospitals - a place that should be respected and protected.
According to a report from Vung Tau General Hospital, on September 30, patient NTS (51 years old) was admitted to the hospital's emergency department by his family with a diagnosis of severe pneumonia, respiratory failure, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
Then the patient's condition worsened and he was transferred to the intensive care - anti-poison department for further treatment.
By 9pm on October 7, the patient's condition had worsened, with cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. The intensive care and anti-poisoning team led by Dr. NVL and four nurses performed emergency resuscitation on the patient.
After about 20 minutes of intensive resuscitation but the patient's condition did not improve, the on-duty team contacted the patient's family to explain the patient's condition.
The unexpected situation happened at 9:36 p.m., a young man (name unknown) who was a patient's relative entered the department while the doctor was still on the phone. Before the doctor could explain the patient's progress, this man suddenly shouted loudly, using insulting words to the on-duty team.
More seriously, while nurse T. was carrying out medical orders, this young man repeatedly hit the nurse on the head, then continued to insult and cause trouble in the department.
Immediately after that, the hospital security quickly reported to Phuoc Thang Ward Police. The authorities arrived at 10:06 p.m. to control this person and take him out of the treatment area.
The incident caused nurse T. to panic and become dizzy, requiring her to be hospitalized for observation at the hospital's general surgery department.
On October 9, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health visited and encouraged nurse T.. Currently, the nurse's health has stabilized but still needs to be monitored.
The Ho Chi Minh City health sector will continue to coordinate with the City Police and relevant agencies to build a safe hospital environment for both medical staff and patients, ensuring that each officer, doctor, and nurse can confidently devote themselves to the cause of caring for and protecting people's health.
Nurses deserve legal protection.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health added that nurses, like all medical staff, are those who carry out the duty of caring for, treating and protecting the health of the people. They deserve to be respected by society and protected by the law while performing their duties.
Assaulting medical staff not only causes physical and mental harm to the victim, but also undermines the trust of the medical team, negatively affecting the quality of patient care.
The city's health sector calls on relatives of patients to share, sympathize and accompany the medical team, especially when they are working hard to take care of the patients.
