According to the report, at around 9pm on October 7, at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department, the on-duty team discovered that patient NTS (admitted to the hospital on September 30) had signs of cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. Doctor Nguyen Van Le and his team quickly performed CPR for nearly 20 minutes, but the patient's condition did not improve, and the prognosis was poor.
While continuing the emergency treatment, the nurse on duty called the patient's family to inform them of the situation. At 9:36 p.m., a man identified as a relative of the patient arrived at the hospital room. Before the doctor could explain, this man loudly cursed and insulted the on-duty team, then repeatedly hit nurse Th. on the head - the person who was carrying out the patient's medical orders.
This behavior made nurse Th. dizzy and panicked, forcing her to stop working and be taken to the General Surgery Department for treatment.
Immediately after the incident, the hospital security force and Phuoc Thang Ward Police arrived, restrained the attacker, recorded the scene and took him out of the treatment area. The incident was reported to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and Phuoc Thang Ward Police for handling according to regulations.
Dr. Lam Tuan Tu, Director of Vung Tau General Hospital, affirmed: “The hospital resolutely condemns all acts of violence and physical and mental abuse of medical staff while they are performing their duty to treat patients. This is not only a violation of the law, but also goes against human values and social ethics.”
Mr. Tu said the hospital will closely coordinate with the police to strictly handle the case, protect the legitimate rights of medical staff and ensure a safe and civilized medical examination and treatment environment.
“We hope to receive the support and understanding of the people, to build a humane and mutually respectful hospital environment - where medical staff can confidently contribute to the health of the community,” the hospital director emphasized.
