In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Minh Tuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Publishing Association and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine, emphasized: “Vietnamese publishing is a media industry of knowledge, and at the same time a creative industry of the digital age, where technology, knowledge, culture and people converge.”
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Publishing Association, digital transformation is not simply a technical change but a fundamental shift in professional thinking: from producing publications to creating content, from single-line publishing to building an open knowledge ecosystem, from one-way communication to multi-dimensional interaction between publishers, authors and readers.
Sharing the same view, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director - Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House, said that publishing is a cultural and ideological field that plays a special role in cultivating knowledge, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, and contributing to the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people. Mr. Vu Trong Lam pointed out that this is an important cultural industry, making a practical contribution to the sustainable development of the country.
According to statistics, in 2024, the whole country will have 57 publishing houses publishing more than 51,000 books, equivalent to 597 million printed copies. Of which, 54.3% of publishers have participated in electronic publishing, an increase of more than 29% compared to the previous year, demonstrating the industry's clear progress in the digital technology environment.
Delegates at the workshop unanimously agreed that digital transformation is an inevitable trend and a “golden opportunity” for the Vietnamese publishing industry to make a breakthrough. To take advantage of this opportunity, it is necessary to increase the application of science and technology, invest in digital infrastructure, improve the quality of human resources, perfect policy mechanisms and consider investment in publishing as an investment in the intellectual future and cultural identity of the nation.
