WEF: Global cybercrime causes $3 trillion in damage each year

According to the WEF President, along with the opportunity to increase productivity by 10% in the next decade from AI, cybersecurity risks will also increase, requiring more effective and responsible digital governance systems.

On October 15, President of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Borge Brende warned that the damage caused by global cybercrime is currently estimated at between 2,000 and 3,000 billion USD per year, equivalent to nearly 3% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Speaking at the World Future Councils and Cybersecurity 2025 Conference in Dubai (United Arab Emirates - UAE), Mr. Brende emphasized that increasingly sophisticated cyber security threats are directly threatening economic stability and confidence in the digital transformation process.

He called for increased international cooperation and the development of a global legal framework to protect critical sectors while ensuring a balance between innovation and security.

According to the WEF President, the world is entering the "Fourth Industrial Revolution" phase driven by artificial intelligence (AI), with investment expected to exceed 500 billion USD by 2025.

However, along with the opportunity to increase productivity by 10% in the next decade, cybersecurity risks will also increase, requiring more effective and responsible digital governance systems./.
