At the 5G Day event organized by Viettel in Ho Chi Minh City on December 17, leading experts and directors of telecommunications and technology enterprises all believed in the bright future of the 5G network in the world as well as in Vietnam.

Forecasting the development trend of 5G in Vietnam and in the region, Mr. Pham Van Minh, Director of Mobile Solutions at Nokia, said that 5G deployment is expected to grow strongly in the coming years. 5G traffic is forecast to surpass 4G in 2025, becoming a technology that drives the economy and opens up many new opportunities for businesses.

According to Mr. Minh, 5G is the fastest growing mobile technology today and will account for more than half of the total global data volume by 2025.

“5G has created new business models through network optimization and providing new services such as Network Slicing and AI. Businesses need to take advantage of the opportunities from the transformation,” Mr. Minh affirmed.

Proving that 5G is growing strongly globally, Mr. Hoang Hung Hai, product director of Qualcomm, said that the number of global mobile connections is increasing rapidly, with 2.1 billion 5G phones sold and more than 300 carriers launching 5G services.

“5G technology is expected to contribute nearly 900 billion USD to the global economy by 2030,” Mr. Hai informed.

Mr. Pham Le Chung, head of cloud software services at Ericsson, also gave impressive figures on the development of 5G. Accordingly, the 5G network has now covered 55% of the world's population and is accounting for 34% of global mobile traffic, opening up many new opportunities for businesses and users.

In Vietnam alone, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Director of Mobile Service Center, Viettel Telecom, said that Viettel's 5G network had 3 million users after only 2 weeks of launch, now reaching approximately 4 million and is expected to increase to 10 million after 1 year.

According to Mr. Son, 21% of Viettel subscribers already own 5G phones, 70% of subscribers in the coverage area have used 5G and traffic accounts for 30% in deployment areas, showing that the attraction of this technology is very large.

Viettel's pioneering in launching 5G commercially has contributed greatly to Vietnam's Internet ranking globally. Accordingly, Vietnam has jumped 8 places to 43rd place after having the first 5G network, with a growth rate of 31% - the strongest increase according to Ookla's assessment.

Statistics from iSpeed - the measurement system of the Ministry of Information and Communications - also showed a similar trend in October - the time when Viettel launched its 5G network.

Exhibition of 5G applications

Within the framework of 5G Day, 50 booths from large domestic and international technology enterprises displayed the latest 5G, AI, Cloud, and IoT technology solutions and products on the market.

Viettel Telecom and its member units of the Military Telecommunications Industry Group introduce their service solutions through 8 main product groups including:
