The People's Committee of Kim Ngan Commune said it is coordinating with relevant agencies to inspect and review the boarding meal process, and clarify the cause of the incident. The locality's viewpoint is to handle the incident objectively, openly, transparently, without cover-ups, to ensure the safety of students and the educational environment.
The Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province has also asked schools to review the entire process of providing boarding meals, and at the same time strengthen supervision and ensure food safety to avoid similar incidents.
This mass food poisoning incident caused a lot of noise when a clip appeared on social networks recording the words of the school's vice principal, allegedly preventing the poisoned student from being taken to the hospital.
As Thanh Nien reported, at around 8am on September 26, after breakfast at school, many students had symptoms such as stomachache, vomiting, diarrhea...
However, a 44-second audio clip appeared on social media, allegedly recording the scene at the school's medical room. The clip featured the principal, vice principal, school health staff, homeroom teachers, and many students showing unusual signs. Notably, the voice said to be that of Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue, Vice Principal of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School, asserted that "they were not taken to the hospital" even though medical staff suggested that the students be immediately transferred to a medical facility.
According to Ms. Hue, at that time, many students showed signs of stomachache and vomiting, and she did not agree to take them to the hospital by motorbike because she wanted to wait for a car to ensure safety. She also said that saying the students "had no problem" was only to reassure parents, teachers, and students.
Immediately after that, the school coordinated with the authorities and parents to mobilize vehicles to transport 40 students to Le Thuy Regional General Hospital for examination and treatment. All of the students had symptoms of gastroenteritis suspected to be caused by poisoning, the hospital gave them IV fluids and antibiotics.
This incident is also being clarified by the authorities.
