More than 1,000 students from Phan Ngoc Hien High School participated in the program.
Doctor, what should I do?
"Doctor, if a person has just had a cardiac arrest and is choking on a foreign object, should we perform CPR first or push the foreign object out first?"
“Doctor, if someone is choking on a foreign object and I have tried all methods to push the object out but still can't, what should I do?”
“Doctor, is mouth-to-mouth resuscitation like in the movies or that scene?”…
Many interesting and good questions, from real-life situations, were asked by students to doctors in the program "Instructions for emergency treatment of common cases" organized by AidFirst Project in collaboration with Phan Ngoc Hien High School (Ninh Kieu Ward) on the morning of October 7.
Doctor Nguyen Dang Thanh Danh (Emergency Department, Cho Ray Hospital) presented instructions on drowning first aid skills.
Student Duong Thao Vy, grade 11, participated in answering questions from the program.
The Organizing Committee awarded gifts to students who participated in the knowledge test before the program took place.
These questions seem not to be difficult or familiar, but they make many people startled because they do not know how to answer correctly. Even simpler questions such as if bitten by a dog or cat without bleeding, do you need to get vaccinated or not, when calling 115 for emergency, do you need to dial the province/city code... also cause a lot of confusion for many people.
Doctor Vuong Dung Kiet (115 Emergency Center) guides students in practicing handling foreign body aspiration.
Doctor Nguyen Thi Quynh Huong (115 Emergency Center) guides students in practicing how to handle a broken arm.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Quynh Huong, Dr. Vuong Dung Kiet (115 Emergency Center) and Dr. Nguyen Dang Thanh Danh (Emergency Department, Cho Ray Hospital) helped teachers and more than 1,000 students of the school to be equipped with knowledge and skills of first aid for the community. The main contents revolved around: drowning emergency, burn treatment, stroke emergency; wound treatment, trauma emergency with suspected fractures; foreign body aspiration emergency, cardiac arrest emergency.
Afterwards, the children were guided by doctors to practice on models and human bodies. “Learning while doing”, with practical and useful knowledge, the program attracted the children all morning. The good point of the AidFirst Project is to bring basic, easy-to-remember, easy-to-apply knowledge, thereby spreading the spirit of community responsibility with the motto “small skills but great meaning”.
AidFirst of boys for the community
The AidFirst project was founded in 2024 by Doan Dao Minh Duc, a 12th grade student at Saigon South International School ( Ho Chi Minh City) with the goal of creating first aid courses in the community, helping to prevent and minimize risks caused by accidents and injuries. AidFirst aims to equip students, teachers, and staff with first aid knowledge and skills to help people handle situations promptly, protect themselves, and save people in emergency situations.
Doan Dao Minh Duc emphasized that first aid is not only a necessary skill but also a social responsibility. Thereby, it helps to minimize risks and losses and contributes to building a safer living environment, especially for children, the elderly, and the disabled - vulnerable groups in society.
Lessons on first aid are very necessary and useful, such as first aid for drowning people, requiring correct and safe practice.
In each location where the AidFirst project implements the program, doctors will share theory and practice on common first aid cases: basic cardiopulmonary arrest, drowning emergency, foreign body aspiration, wound treatment, suspected wound treatment with fractures, electric shock emergency, convulsion emergency, first aid for snake bites, insect bites... The AidFirst project is deployed to teachers and students of primary, secondary and high schools, and appropriate lectures will be designed for each subject.
Students practice immobilizing a broken arm.
Students role-play drowning and practice proper first aid.
Student Doan Dao Minh Duc added that since the end of 2024, AidFirst has been implemented in many schools in the southern provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, Can Tho City... with tens of thousands of teachers and students participating. Accompanying the project are doctors from the 115 Emergency Center, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Than Dan Hospital...

Previously, on October 6, the AidFirst project implemented the program "Guidelines for handling common emergency cases" at Bui Huu Nghia High School (Binh Thuy Ward), attracting over 1,500 teachers and students to participate and experience. The project representative shared that in the near future, AidFirst will coordinate with many other schools in Can Tho City to implement the program.
At each program, the AidFirst project gives the school a first aid kit that meets the standards of the Ministry of Health . This kit can provide first aid to 100 children at the same time in case of emergency.
